Similar to why salutes are usually given with the right hand

And.....that harkens back to horses.

And one more item  :pop

My old Vincent Comet had a SS on both sides.
Now there's a business opportunity, manufacture stands for the RH side.

But you mount them from the left or they will kick start you.

Swords!!!!! Swords are usually mounted on your left. For the right handed cross body draw. It gets in the way of mounting and dismounting horses, so dismount on the left.

Same thing with salutes and swords as well.

This is the same reason why you would ride your horse on the left so that you pass someone on the right. The better to defend yourself, for the right handed majority. Hence the driving on the left/right debacle.

I heard, though I could be wrong, that it was because Napoleon Bonaparte was left handed that he supposedly insisted that all French carts and vehicles drive on the right, the better for left handers, such as himself. This led to them driving their cars in the same way.

Some bikes have no side stands, you lean them against a tree.... And why do Harleys lean waaay over to the left?

Americans drive on the right because our history didn't have as much to do with swords as with rifles.
A rifle carried by a right handed horseman angled across the saddle pointed left.  When meeting a stranger on the road
You passed to the right of him so that he was at the muzzle of your rifle until you could recognize whether he was friend or foe.
I don't know why Napoleon did it.  He had lots of riflemen to guard him anyway.

Trials bikes often had right hand sidestands, maybe it was a Spanish thing, but some of the early Japanese trials bikes had them too...developed by the guys who developed the Spanish bikes.  Farm bikes have 2 sidestands - great for working on, just push it over to the other stand when you change sides.

That Triumph above is supposed to be a racing bike. Racers don't have side or center stands because they might contact the track at speed..That woman is supposed to be hot...the awful tattoo is not...
Rifles pointed left on the saddle in the USA? Perhaps, but what about European countries that drive on the right ?

I am offended that you couldn't find a beauty like this to pose with a Guzzi.  Do I need to start a collection to correct this?

That makes a lot of sense. The Napoleon thing is just one of those tales, that could be true but equally might be apocryphal.

Yeah , like the myth that he was short , when he was actually a bit over average height in his day .

From Wikipedia, probably as accurate as any other theory on why the US drive on the right ?

Quote

In the late 18th century, the shift from left to right that took place in countries such as the United States was based on teamsters’ use of large freight wagons pulled by several pairs of horses. The wagons had no driver's seat, so a postilion sat on the left rear horse and held his whip in his right hand. Seated on the left, the driver preferred that other wagons pass him on the left so that he could be sure to keep clear of the wheels of oncoming wagons.[45] He did that by driving on the right side of the road.[41]
