With some Chinese financing, looks like the old italian husky factory is back in business.
Hey, Chinese ownership worked out for Volvo didn't ?
Looks good!

Tank looks like crap, IMO, but I like the rest. Wonder if they're actually manufacturing them or just assembling from Chinese made components? Other than the tank, the rest of the bike is nearly identical to a Shineray XY400.

You are right, the SWM 440 looks like a Chinese bike assembled in Italy.
The SWM Dualsport 650 looks very similar to the old Husky 610/630 (?) though

I wish someone would make that Husky. It's What the KLR should be.

Too bad the tank has the "already dated and ain't gonna get better" Buell look to it.
Todd.

what Buell? mine doesn't have a tank, fuel in frame which makes a lot of sense.

Ampelio Macchi is the designer of the Husky 610/630 engine.
At EICMA 2013 there was already a Shineray prototype with that engine.

cafe bars and knobbies........... ...here we go again.

OMG what a crap....
I am from the same town SWM was founded ( Palazzolo Milanese ,MI ) , I personally know the founders of the SWM , I can tell you that the only thing these new SWM have in common with the originals is the sticker on the gas tank, that's all.
....in this "global" world things are not getting any better....too many chinese things.... ohhh well...
Anyway good luck to the new SWM !!

I like the style, and I like seeing another thumper in the market. The US probably won't see it, but, whatever.
The parts are probably a mix of Italian and "other," although the mystery engine might be Chinese. If the quality is there, I don't mind. Good to see an historic brand resurrected. Even better to see a shuttered motorcycle factory re-opened. (How many times has that happened?)
If they can sell it for less than the competition, also good. The price of new motorcycles is getting out-of-hand, so a little downward pressure on motorcycle prices is welcome, IMHO.

The engine of the 440 is surely chinese. Is a Shineray copy of the Honda RFVC, upscaled to 440 cm3, bore x stroke 89x70mm (while Shineray use a 400 cm3 85x70mm version).
In China the Shineray X5, with the 400 engine, is a "premium" bike, with a comparativerly high price, so it's probable the engine is sound.

The homepage is available in English: http://www.swm-motorcycles.it/en/ . Shineray indeed has a stake in SWM.
-
Neat! I guess it will remain to be seen whether it is the low end of Chinese quality or the high end.

According to what was reported in several German magazines they are aiming for the market lying above SR 400, Enfield Continental, but slightly below Ducati Scrambler. I think they can achieve that.

SWM just might have a chance to break through.
In the UK, the SWM RS650R is £5699 and the KTM Enduro 690R £7999 !
