Title: Refinish Bubs?
Post by: billgilbert on March 15, 2015, 12:58:13 PM
I have Bubs on my 850T and they're great. Last time around I had them sandblasted, then used a can of VHT of each one, and since I had access to an industrial oven, I baked them up to abut 600F. That held up pretty well for 15 years, but rust is starting to come through on the headers.

I no longer have the oven at my disposal, and am thinking maybe I should send them out for black plasma coating. Any recommendations for vendors or other thoughts?
Thanks
BG

I have not heard of plasma coatings used in high heat applications, but I don't understand the process.  I'd be interested in how the project turns out for you.

You might consider trying high-temp powdercoating. My local 'coater just did the muffler to my Elefant and last year did my XT500's. After a year's use, no visible detoriation on the XT, so I'm optimistic that it will hold up well long term.

Many powder coaters will ceramic coat pipes and mufflers.  It's a matte finish vs gloss.  Cost me $60 for the whole Triumph exhaust system.

Years ago I used Jethot coating on a few projects several color options to choose from.
