Title: What's For Dinner?
Post by: Crusty on March 30, 2015, 04:43:46 PM
I'm sitting here eating a cheeseburger that was fried in butter on a Martin's Potato Bread roll with a nice layer of Sauteed Onions (also fried in butter) and a reasonable amount of Heinz 57 Ketchup.
As a side, I'm  having oven roasted Yukon Gold potatoes seasoned with salt, black pepper, oregano and garlic powder. It doesn't get much better than this.

Just thought I'd make y'all jealous.

I lunched on my world-famous wine-pickled herring, sockeye, 'shrooms and white onion packed in sour cream, on toasted bread from my bread machine,  covered with a layer of sliced, pickled egg.  It was a theme lunch on account of it's pickled herring season at Le Hovel Rodekyll.

Quick -- someone one-up me before I eat again!   :food

Nothing special here tonight.   Deep-fried cod fillets with sauteed red potatoes, onions, and peppers, steamed spinach, and tapioca custard pudding for dessert.

Fried eggs, toast, bacon, hash browns.

lunch was PBJ and some grapes

We like simple ;)  And most of the time we add green chiles :D  (not on PBJ, that would be just gross :)  )

PBJ sandwich using whole wheat bread, cup of 2% milk.
Later today I will eat some dead fish that is pretending to be crab.

I am about to fire up the grill with some hickory.   Have some pork steaks that have been BBQ-seasoning rubbed.   Cigar is lit with cold Dos Equis Lager.

Moco Loco....flame broiled hamburger patty over rice, with a fried egg on top, all topped with brown gravy.  Add hot sauce as needed.  hard to beat!

Just finished here.  It was an all grilled night.  New York Strip with just salt and pepper, finished with sweet onion steak sauce, baked potato in foil, zucchinni marinated in olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and fresh tomato split and fired directly on the grill.

On a whim, we decided at the last minute, to go German.

Took awhile as we had to run around and find some ingredients, but it was great.  Still smells good out there in the kitchen, too.

Mmmmmmm.

Life is good..  ;D

Edit: It's been a while since we were in SoCal, what with Dorcia's spot of bother, surgery, rehab, etc. but I always get the "When are you smoking some ribs, Grandpa?" No smoker out here, so I have to do it on Her Kid's grill.. kind of a PITA. Opened it up, and for sure, Neil was right. Rust never sleeps. (!) One flavorizer bar was rusted into a pile of rubble in the bottom of the grill. The rest were closely following. Both burners were rusted through, and one grate was rusted through.
Parts ordered.
So... you don't get a picture of my ribbage and home made eastern Carolina BBQ dip. Pronounced "Dee Ip" :) until later in the week. ;)
Oh, edit number two:
The Mighty Scura started right up, and looks none the worse for wear. (Guzzi content) Spent the day in the canyons enjoying sunny and 70 and working out the kinks. Life is good for me, too.. :)

DAMMIT !
You're killing me.
I miss crawfish so much.  Hot enough to make my lips swell up.
2 long necks required- 1 to drink & the 2nd to cool my face on the side of the bottle.

Believe me- steamed clams are NO substitute for a beer flat full of mud-bugs, corn, & new potato's, & juice running down your arms dripping off your elbows.

Ain't nothing like it in the world.

Tonight's dinner is the same as every night's dinner.  Organic rolled oats, almond milk, unsalted peanuts and 1/3 of a banana.  Dessert is one whole wheat bagel with canola spread.  At my age a body mass index of 20, no aches and no meds, do not come without some self-care.  Yes, I'm a vegan...How did you guess?  And yes, yes, I know you'll all outlive me.  Just sayin'...

I had a felet-o-fish @ the Mickey-d's over the Will Roger's turnpike for Dinner. I went to Moore, OK. worked 4 hrs. and came back to Springfield, Mo. The whole experience pretty much sucked out loud! Time for a drink, I think I'll make it 3 Martinis in one. You know what they say, martini's are alot like titties. One's not enough and three is too many!

Howzat you get Moco loco in the state of Virginia? It's everywhere around here.  I sometimes have them substitute chili for the gravy.
There is one place that offers internet moco, it's full of spam.  BTW, we call it Loco moco.
It is a good breakfast for someone about to have a physically strenuous day.

a little Cheese and Burbon--- my arm is killing me.  next time at Cosco I need to remember to get the big chub of salamie

I think I tore a muscle or tendon a number of months ago.  Being an old construction worker you just don't know when to quit sometimes.

The good news is my arm doesn't hurt anymore living better through chemistry.  The bad news is I know I'm going to have a headache in the morning.

My morning Griso commute should help.

Found out that if you take your sardines out of the can into a shallow dish and cover them with white vinegar for an hour or two, it really improves the flavor.

And, if your "stinky cheese" high gets jaded over the years, a good ripe Tilsit cheese will send the Limberger away screaming with its nose pinched shut ....

My grill's still buried under snow, is soon as it melts, I'll fire it up.  Some years I've been able to grill all winter, but not this one.

FYI: I don't like cooking much, the restaurants here are very expensive, so I usually go out and pick up something fast and convenient.

I am going to pass by the local market and deli later today and if anything looks good.

A couple of huge Portabello mushrooms, about as big as the gas cap mount on my Griso. Baked potatoes (45 min at 400 degrees to make the skins crisp) and fresh Asparagus. and a Stella to wash it down. Mushrooms grilled on the BBQ with olive oil, butter and garlic with a splash of white wine. Almost as good as a steak...

Lordy, I love sardines.  Kathi hates 'em.  But, she eats some weird Polish "delicacies," so I can't criticize (much).   :wife: :D

I buy lots of 'em for supper when she's with the grandbabies.

A (or more  ;))) beer, some crackers, and any of the seemingly infinite varieties of sardine packings, e.g., mustard -- possibly my favorite.

I have found an odd phenomenon, too, that maybe other sardine aficionados may have encountered.

When I have regular soda crackers with sardines (especially with those packed in olive oil), there is a pronounced taste of ashes.  Anyone else notice that?  I've googled that and not seen it mentioned.

Pizza and beer.

Yes!   ;D

Bill

P.S.  Tonight, it was Costco rotisserie chicken and some green leaves Kathi said were good for me.  Disgusting, IMO.  The Franzia box wine got me through it without gagging.

One of my favorite meals is being served tonight. Cornbread with chipped beef and onion gravy. A recipe from the depression era. My other favorite meal is chickencock's homemade country fried deer steak, mashed taters and gravy, only thing better is G-Ma's fried squirrel or rabbit!
