Title: Cal Vin dash question
Post by: Tom Hansen on April 01, 2015, 04:51:47 PM
Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a matte black cover for the CalVin chrome dashboard that houses the oil, charging, gas level indicator, etc.?

I find the chrome  very annoying on early morning rides with the sun coming up behind me.

According to the exploded view of the dash, that cover removes easily. Take it off and paint it any color you like...

You can use plasti-dip in case you want to go back to the chrome some day

Tom--I have a black one on my Bassa (same reason). I bought it, didn't paint it, so I'm pretty sure it is oem--possibly from a Sport.

Yes, that dash piece can get mighty reflective.  I remember being blinded when the sun hit it just right.

stein dinze in germany do other colour  I think... but they're mightily priced...

I used some black gaffer tape!

only a couple of bolts to remove, I'd get them painted...

Thank you all for your help.

Rich, would you text me a photo of the Bassa dash?

They were black on the V11 LeMans, if you want OEM.

Right. Now I remember that that's where I got mine. I also got a carbon fiber dash from somewhere.
Tom--I'll text a pic.

The carbon dash was on the '02 bikes, as I recall.

Follow up:  For any CalVin owners who want a black dash light cover instead of the chrome stocker, here is the information from Harper's. This is a flat black cover.  They also have another one listed for about 3 times the price, so shop accordingly.  I understand there was a carbon fiber dash light cover available  so the $165.00 one may be just that.

Please double check for fit on your particular machine before ordering. YMMV.

It was the dash bracket that was carbon on some V11 Sports, not the indicator light cover.

Other than livery, does a Cal Vin vary from other California models?

Is a Black Eagle a Cal Vin w/o all the touring gear?

Yep.  Cal Vintage and Black Eagle have Breva 1100 engine internals.
