Title: 2009 Norge windshield chrome caps
Post by: lfontanarosa on April 03, 2015, 12:34:23 PM
Hello everyone, first post here.
I did a search for similar topics but couldn't find anything.
I have a 2009 Norge whose windscreen I just replaced. One of the chrome caps (washers) that were on the original windshield was cracked and I need to replace it. I searched the internet but found nothing, except for the black caps that fit a 2008 Norge but wouldn't work on a 2009. Has anyone ever have to replace these caps and where did you find them?
Thanks!

My 07 has the chrome ones.   I cracked one while reinstalling windshield.  The only ones I could get from the dealer were black.  Apparently chrome has been discontinued.

So out came the old superglue and it worked. (So far).  Just be judicious on tightening.

Contact Lee Bruns on this board.  He makes aftermarket replacements.

Yep, I made a bunch of those. Polished aluminum. Been a while since anyone asked for them. Mostly folks wanted a 50 cent answer,  not a 4 dollar one.  I can make more if there is interest. but 22 dollars for a set of 4, (shipping included in the US) is probably more than anyone wants to spend.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help!
Lee, can you make these in any color or just chrome? I was thinking that if I spend $22 for a brand new set I would probably change the color. Let me know thanks!

Another plug for these...bought a set several years ago and they look great.  I just recently Plasti dipped them and the screw heads black so match my tinted shorty Cal Sci windshield.  You could paint them any color.

That is pretty darn clever.

I have some of that stuff sitting around.  Hmmmmm.  Wonder how long it stays useable in the can?

Bill

P.S.  Don't need those caps, but can attest to the quality of Lee's wok on bushings.  And, Lee, that price is most reasonable.

I just make the out of polished aluminum I suppose I could  make them out of brass if a person asked. That's easy enough Not stainless steel though, too time consuming to get a polish on stainless. If you want a different color than that, go and hit them with a coat of paint.

I think lee made me the first set many years ago. They look like they were chromed but are just polished aluminum. They still look the same as the did when I first put them on and never needed polishing once. Hey Guzzi just for info, never make a part out of plastic that has a tapered screw holding it on. Good chance it will crack like a couple of mine original ones did.

asccj, I should have said chromed plastic caps, that is why I could super glue it.  But, it has held so far...  The replacements are now black plastic so wont be any better.  So, I'm gonna buy some from Lee.

I'll chime in for Lee's aluminum replacements.  Look the same after 20k miles and I change shields almost weekly; worth the price IMHO.

Thanks Lee!

Definitely worth the price, and I'm perfectly ok with the polished aluminum. Do I contact Lee directly? Thanks again all for all the valuable feedback!

One more plug for Lee's aluminum pieces. Mine have been on my Norge for over 40,000 miles. They look good and are a bargain for what you get. So are his Duck jackets, but that's a topic for another thread.

Finally, today I was able to get the blasted cut-off tool to work properly again. And spun off a few sets of the washers, BUT it has been said that not all Norge windshields used the countersunk screws. Do I need to spin off a set or two of them with flat counterbores to hold caps crews? Or button head screws?
