Title: Home made rack
Post by: Xlratr on April 12, 2015, 03:10:04 PM: There are a lot of guys with great machining and fabrication skills on here, and I think for them this would be a piece of cake, but I thought I'd post it anyway because I'm pleased with how it turned out.

I'm going on a short trip with the old T3 in a few weeks and need some more luggage space. In particular I need some place to strap a tent to. I looked around for a handle bar mounted luggage rack but couldn't find one. So I bought some old Suzuki handle bar mounts off ebay and a used Honda rack. I cut it up and welded it back together like this. A coat of back paint, and this is how it looks.

I'd use high-quality flat straps to strap that tent over that whirling front wheel ... there'll be no stunt man there if that goes into the spokes.

Nice clean looking rack!

Absolutely. A couple of Guzzi Guys bought the farm when a sleeping bag got into the rear wheel..

I have some of those fancy flat straps, so I’m OK there. I did plan on welding on some loops, but it actually works fine without. One end of the strap on the very front, and the other at the top of the piece coming from the handlebar, and there’s nowhere for them to slide to. It seems solid.

I love the Bronson picture. I don’t think it was broadcasted very often in England, but I remember seeing a few episodes as a kid. I think somehow it must have made an impression on me! Now where can I get one of those DOT or ECE approved woolly hats? ;)
