Title: Questions on changing 02 EV fuel filter
Post by: Tony/CT on April 13, 2015, 10:12:37 AM
So the new filter arrived and with it came four copper crush washers. On removal of the existing filter, which was installed by a Guzzi mechanic in a non Guzzi shop, there were two steel washers, one on each end of the filter. I am "assuming" I don't need these washers, but instead will replace them with the copper crush washers, one on the bolt that connects to the fuel pump and threads into the filter, facing rearward, and two, one on either side of the circular fuel mechanism that the front bolt feeds through that feeds into the pressure adjuster and the injectors, which means I will be using three crush washers and the fourth one that was sent, which is a duplicate of the one rearward from the fuel pump is an "extra" one. Am I getting this??   ???

Are you sure the existing washers are steel and not Aluminium, those are often used in place of copper.

Yes the copper washers are to seal the joints, a typical banjo fitting has 2,
1 between bolt head and banjo, 1 between banjo and filter.

I think you are correct and the two washers are aluminum. So I can discard those two washers and use the new copper ones that came with the fuel filter.

Yes, except don't throw the old washers away -- they are often reuseable and could be valuable.  I stopped a brake leak the other day with a used crush washer.  For whatever reason I couldn't get a seal on the 'new' one.

Unfortunately, once that hemorrhage was plugged and I could get pressure up in the lines I found two hard line joints that were also leaking.  But that's a story for another time.   **C

Thanks rodekyll. The are bagged and saved. My son lives in Talkeetna AK. Said he's never seen a Guzzi up there. Tried to buy one but to no avail. Ended up with a Kawasaki. But he still wears a Guzzi hat!!
