Title: oil light glows with ignition off
Post by: John_B on April 15, 2015, 04:57:32 AM
I am thinking of bidding on a Breva 750 currently on UK Ebay (no point in linking, if you look within about 4 days of this posting it is easy to find). The description says "the LED oil light glows dimly with ignition off (a well known Guzzi issue with the pcb in the instrument console) – this is not a problem if the bike is used – otherwise better to keep on an optimate or similar device."

Has anyone heard of this issue, or know what it costs to fix? (I did google before posting, and have not found it yet.) Is it a sign the electronics are likely to get worse, and need full replacement? Or is there a realistic option of fitting a battery switch, and living with the issue long-term? I have nowhere to store the bike where I can fit a trickle charger.

Thanks for reading  :)

Bump.

Naturally, I haven't a clue, but surely someone here does.

It's such a well known problem that nobody's ever heard of it. I certainly haven't. Sounds like a diode problem in the dash.

Does it have a light?
It shows the switch going into a dash, I would have thought it would be an LCD display.

I imagine this information would put off a lot of prospective buyers, it might be a chance to pick up a bargain

Oopps Pete beat me to it
I should add I know zilch about modern Guzzis

No LCD. Oil light and other idiot lights are all LED's. The early Baby Brevas had an issue with the EFI light being illuminated when the engine was running due to the CPS cable running too close to the LH coil but I've never heard of an oil light problem???

Pete,
I think I would be safe in saying an oil light problem doesn't mean an oil pressure problem
On my LED equipped bikes the oil light glows in wet weather with the leakage across switch.
I don't know if the light is wired directly to the switch but I suspect so, the puzzling part it does so with the key off.

This small fault wouldn't put me off

On this topic, if anyone has an old dash they can spare I wouldn't mind delving into one, I may be able to shed some light into how they operate but no promises. Send me a PM

Really stupid question , so apologies before hand . Do the later SBs have a low oil sensor ?

  Dusty

No.

Oh, Roy, I've got one if you want a play. It's a warranty take off. Can't even remember what it's issue was it was so long ago.

I just bought my 750 Breva a month ago, and this morning found my oil light glowing dimly with the ignition off. When I pushed on the dash a little it went off, but did not stay off. After taking the back of the dash off, it remained a mystery. It almost has to be a wiring issue, but it doesn't look like there is an easy way to diagnose.
I'm hoping if I ignore it, it will just go away.
Did you buy this bike? Still having the problem? Find a fix?
How long will this take to drain the battery?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum, Fuzzy.  You'll do better if you make this a new topic.  Folks aren't expecting to see this here.  Personally I know nothing about the 750 breva.

Never seen any sign of it in the 11 years I have owned the Breva.

In fact,  this would be the first time I have ever heard of it.

I hear Ratguzzi may have a Breva dash going........
