Title: Cheap blind bearing pullers
Post by: canuck750 on April 15, 2015, 05:08:22 PM

I bought a set of blind bearing pullers off Ebay from China, arrived today,

(http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/canuck750/CRASH/IMG_0153_zpsippwla9l.jpg) (http://s249.photobucket.com/user/canuck750/media/CRASH/IMG_0153_zpsippwla9l.jpg.html)

The whole set including shipping was $32.76 ;D

Cheap at twice the price for the limited use they will get, I have the slide hammer type but these are so much easier on the soft alloy of a transmission case and you can slowly wind out the bearing rather than using the reverse hammer action of a slide puller. I may weld the 'washers' to the ends of the open tubes and it would be very easy to make up different tubes sizes for various bearing diameters.

Individual Guzzi blind bearing pullers for transmissions, when rarely available have bid up over $100 a piece.

Worth the risk for my money

Thanks for the tip, let us know how they work (how well they're heat treated  ;) ). What's the inner diameter of the two tubes?

I had a very stubborn bearing in a 4 spd. recently and whipped up this contraption to extract it. Did the job, just isn't very "pretty".

35mm and 28mm

I am going to tear into my 750 S3 transmission on the weekend and will see if these tubes work or if I need to make up custom ID pipes to suite the various case bearings.

The ball bearings of a 5 spd. are 47 and 52 mm o.d., the needle bearings are 35 mm.

Yes, but they don't come with the tubes/cups, only a slide hammer. My blind bearing puller set is an OTC brand and is very nice, worth the $80 I paid for it. But sometimes you need the tubes to make the job easier. In the photo of my bearing puller contraption, you'll see one of the collets from the OTC set.

Thanks for posting. I ended up renting a hefty set from Autozone. It's a tool rental program and you basically you pay for it and if you break it you buy it and if not, then you return it and get your deposit back so it's basically free rental. It's not a use it and return it like "oh I didn't like it type thing", it's just their standard tool loan program. As long as I don't lose my receipt and don't break I should be good.. and... where is that receipt now... ???

Though for the price of the one you just bought and it has free shipping, it's seems worth buying it for sure. Definitely report back with the quality, and also, how long did it take for delivery?

Prompted me to look on AliExpress.  Some of the stuff they sell is freight included to NZ.  Bought a few things for the lathe simply because at the time no one here seemed to stock what I wanted. ::) However, all their blind bearing pullers have freight as an extra, and that is some extra! :o :o

So far I most of the blind stuff have been wheel bearings so I just run the arc welder around the inside of the cup and it falls out.

That looks a good useful set for the $ Canuck, cheaper than some of the freight charges that I saw.
