Wow. Beautiful. In the '70s one of my high school riding buddy's dad had a very nice original Ducati 250 Diana which the friend rode occasionally. Sad to say that the rest of us louts were unappreciative and ignorant of the gem in our midst. We were all on DTs, CBs, SLs, or RDs.

Something the PO likes to do with his bikes, I'm not sure why. He had actually told me that he was going to remove and keep it. I need to email him to see if he wants it back.
It's Italian, 50 centesimi. It is from 1932. I doubt it is worth anything as it has a hole drilled through it for the wire that secures it to the petcock.
While I've got your attention, since you had one of these singles, I know you'll know the answer. What is the shift pattern on these? 1-up 3 down? It might actually be a 5 speed, I'm not sure, I think I counted 4 shifts just doing it in the garage while rocking the wheel back and forth. What year did they switch from 4 to 5 speeds? I thought it was only the wide-case motors that were 5 speeds. This is a narrow case.
It also seems to have a positive neutral between each gear??

That's a beauty. I had the hots for a new Dianna when I was a kid, but couldn't afford it. From memory it was something like $600. ::) Always have loved the duck singles, but too many motorcycles, so little time.. ;D

Lovely bike indeed. As a teenager I was lucky enough to ride a Ducati single and still treasure the memories. Shift pattern is 1 up, 3(or perhaps) 4 down Your Monza appears to be a "narrow case" ( narrower lug castings at rear engine/frame attachments) from the pictures, although I can't tell for sure and they were mostly 4 speeds, although I have heard of 5 speed Dianas. In 1968 the first widecases appeared, at least on Euro models and those were 5 speeds. As far as the neutrals available, you might want to check the selector box( right rear oval shape cover from where shift shaft protrudes, only a few 6mm allen head screws after shifter pedal is removed ) first. Some of my Bevel Ducks always seemed to have at least on extra neutral... Cheers

Correct, my '67 Scrambler (build in '66) was a narrow case. 1 up, 3 down. I forget if it had false neutrals between other gears. If your carb has a remote float bowl - I had to kick it over while the bike was upright, or the gas wouldn't fuel the carb enough for it to idle. Just a heads up. Mad compression too, don't lose a leg when the lever tries to bite ya.

Mine has the remote float bowl carb -- I'll keep that in mind.
It also has some pretty serious compression, I'll definitely beware of the dreaded kickback.

I haven't ridden it yet, but, do intend on riding it. I won't be one of my regular riders, but, more of something to show off at the local motorcycle breakfast gatherings.

It should be a wonderful ride. I owned a 350 Mk3 Desmo, great bike but my friend had a Diana that was somehow more engaging.
What's really funny-back "in the day" I thought the Monza was ugly. Now I think it is among the coolest of the Ducatis of the time.

I finally got it out for a ride today. The clutch was out of adjustment, and also stick. I got it free, but, damn, it has a hard pull. I think that a new cable might help
It was my first experience with right-foot shift. It wasn’t bad to get used to. Adding to that the different shift pattern (1 up, 4 down) and the heal-toe shifter made it different enough that I didn’t get confused.
I didn’t try to shift the brake pedal at all, and only once did I try to use my right foot for braking,which I caught before causing a gear change.
It still needs a few things, like a mirror or two, and a working headlight. I only went a few miles down the road and back because of these crucial safety items. New tires are in order too, as these are beyond their expiration date. With the next Ephrata breakfast only a week away, this one will have to wait until June to get shown off there, as I won’t have time to address these shortcomings this week.
It’s certainly not a fast bike, but, not bad for 250 thumper. Brakes are “meh”, as one would expect from the non-2LS front brake. My ’68 Honda CL175 (175cc twin) accelerates as well, and brakes better, but, isn’t as beautiful as this.

The handling is pretty good for a bike this old. It is feather light (270 lbs, IIRC), and will likely be fun in some tighter twisties. I didn't push it due to the aged tires. I'll explore it's handling capabilities. This definitely falls in the "fun to ride a slow bike fast" category.
