A while back I expressed an interest in looking at a faulty Guzzi dash.
I got home last evening to find this one all the way from Australia
I think this may be the same dash used on the Breva 750, at least the schematic is similar.

Preliminary findings

The gauges are stepper motors, that's why the needles stay where you put them rather than go back to zero, same idea as the Speedhut ones, very simple design so they should be reliable.

The indicator flasher unit is an integral part of the dash, I'm not sure I like that idea, how would it handle a shorted lamp?
Hopefully I can find a cable to add 12 Volts to see what happens.
A computer Hard Drive cable perhaps?

Sorry about the dust but let's face it you should consider yourself lucky. Usually when we send our dirt overseas we like to charge a king's ransom for it. Ask the Chinese! ;D

Nevada / 750 Breva owners, a couple of questions
The dash has an Instrument Panel Temperature input, is this displayed on the dash?
Is the Low Fuel level sensor a thermistor (little metal device with a wire coming out) or a Float switch (float moving up and down on a rod)
I'm guessing the speed sensor for the speedometer is a Hall effect switch as it has 3 wires.

I finally managed to figure out the cable pinout, I was able to butcher a hard drive cable from 40 to 30 pins, now I am able to have the dash go through what appears to be a startup routine.
It displays the Odometer 5020.5 km
Then all segments display show 8888888
The gauges motor up to about 80% full scale
Then back to Zero
Then everything goes blank and stays that way ???
If I recycle the power it goes through the same sequence
Breva Nevada owners, does this seem normal
Any clue how I might get the display to stay up?

Apparently that dash is off a Nevada and right now you know more about how it operates than I do. Other wise with the chrome removed it looks like the same dash. :)

I will do a thorough check tomorrow but that does sound right. When I bought mine the salesman was emphatic that when you turn the key on you let the rev/speedo do their dance (I think mine go almost right around) and more importantly, wait for the EFI lights to go off. Just can't remember off hand whether the odo stays lit up.

Yes, almost right around then back to zero. I think it must be seeking some travel limits like a printer does after you change the ink. I want to know what happens after it gets back to zero, I thought the display would go to normal with the Odometer and back lighting On, this one goes completely blank. There are a couple of lines that go to the ECU I was wondering if I need to toggle one of those.
If I ground the Oil switch input or the Neutral switch input those lamps flash On / Off at about 1 Hz, is that right?
Do you know where the speedo sensor is on the bike, I suspect it must be magnet activated.
The EFI lights, are they part of the display, I don't have access to it at the moment.
Nothing much happened at all until I put power to the line that shoes on Carls schematic going to the Headlight High Beam, I suspect there must be an error in the drawing, if you could scan the schematic in your manual that would be great. I'll send you a PM

Are the housings different, the pinout looks the same except one schematic shows an Anti-theft light (not in the dash but wired to)

Do the Breva 750/Nevada dashes have a habit of dying? I thought that was more of a B11/B12/Norge problem.
I'd love to see an aftermarket replacement for those models that would include support for diagnostics. Until then, I just buy up working dashes off ebay when I see a good price on one. I've got one working spare on the shelf for when the one on the bike fails (my B11 is on its THIRD dash).

I have a 2004 Breva 750. It has 32,500 miles on the odo and the dash is working perfectly - I guess a few of us get lucky.
The boot up dance is like others describe:
Dials crank to max and then go to zero.
Oil and ECU Indicator lamps flash and go out.
Some times the fuel lamp comes on then goes out.
Odo mileage always shows total miles in the speedo display panel which always stays lit while ign is switched on.
The display panel can be set to display any one of total miles, trip miles, time, and outside air temp.
Any chance of scanning the schemantic & sharing it with us?

I only have Carl's Breva 750 and Nevada schematics to go by at the moment, when I get a bit further I will do one of just the dash external wiring sensors etc. I will certainly share anything I learn.
There's no point in having a schematic of the board itself, I doubt there's much you could fix.
In the meantime I picked up a little information on the Norge & Breva 1100 dash failures
Apparently they can fail leaving you without headlights. If that's all that's wrong with the dash I see nothing wrong with grounding the 86 pin of relay (4) thus bypassing the dash. The only change it will make is the lights will come on with the ignition switch rather than at 800 odd revs, this means that the lights will be on while cranking, I don't see a problem with that but it could also be fudged to turn off while cranking.
Could someone list any other symptoms for the Norge / Breva 1100 dash failure.

My `04 750 Breva has 48K miles on it and the dash has always worked so far. Never heard of any issues on my 750 dash before. ;-T

It seems to go through the startup checks which makes me think it's pretty healthy then goes blank and the backlights turn Off.
It may be there is some signal missing
I take it yours will go through the routine then sit displaying mileage with any lights, Neutral for example (on steady)
It looks like a pretty decent unit

I believe so, but right now my Breva is @ the Prescott, Az. dealer for another issue so can't run it thru it's paces to confer. :D
