Title: Odometer replacement
Post by: Rico88 on April 29, 2015, 11:06:33 AM
So, I know this has been addressed several times.  :beat_horse But I wanted to know if anyone knew of a good replacement for the stock odometer for the Moto guzzi stone. Mine crapped out on me, and it now says I have ridden one mile for about every 50 or so miles I have actually ridden.

I know I could get a replacement gear and try to take everything apart and replace that. But it sounds like it will most likely break again in not too long. I have been trying to find a new unit I could replace it with, But I haven't been able to find much.

I would like to try seeing if I could replace the whole speedometer gauge cluster, with something that has a speedometer on it (possibly digital) and hopefully add in a tachometer so I could actually see what the RPMS are (as well as the new odometer).

Anyone have any suggestions on something that is currently available? I liked the photo of the first one in this post.

But I can't seem to find anything like that available.

I have 3 suggestions

Speedhut, Speedhut & Speedhut

They will make you gauges to your specification right in USA and with a lifetime warranty
Any Colour any font, with without lights, front reset, rear reset, GPS, pulse input you name it.
The folks at Speedhut are a joy to deal with.

Here's mine but they're not a patch on some I have seen recently

They should have the Guzzi Eagle graphic on file
www.speedhut.com/

Someone mentioned they have a special at the moment, I paid just over $300 for the pair a pule input speedo and tach. think long and hard before buying a GPS type.

The replacement speedo part from Guzzi doesn't seem to break like the original ITIs so if it's the stock look you want that's the easiest fix.  I've got 25k on my replacement speedo now with no issues other than breaking the odo reset (I think they all do that).

The cheapest solution is the Sigma bicycle computer.  It's more accurate too.

The top shelf solution is to go for aftermarket gauges like Kiwi_Roy.  It will cost you but the possibilities are endless.

I have a new "plan B" fix that appears to last for a long time.
If you are interested in trying it, let me know. It is NOT very difficult. If you can cut the plastic housing / lens off and glue it back on, then you can do this.
My 'plan A' fix lasted 80,000 miles, but was very difficult to do.
I only have 15,000 miles on 'plan B'.

Just curious as I'm considering replacing the speedo on my Aluminum as the odometer no longer works. Does this use different cables that what already on the bike??

It's electronic. A magnet is mounted on the wheel. The sensor counts revs and rate equal distance & speed.

Actually I mounted my sensor on the gearbox cable drive, it's not doing anything so I thought why not.
You can make your own sensor using a reed switch for a couple of $

I used a flat magnet here but one of the 1/8" bar magnets would work great.

I just put in a Speedhut unit in my 2004 EV. After 124,000 miles, and about 4 repairs, I gave up.
Having the odometer flame out in the middle of a trip makes it too likely that I will run out of gasoline, again.

I decided to go with the GPS model. I even have a box full of small reed switches that would be perfect for that job, but I wasn't in the mood to mess with it.
Installed, running.
