Is anyone from KS. OK. area going to illinois rally
-
Bellbottoms? Groovy! I should be there Friday mid day.
Can hardly wait, I'll be there with bells on!

As this will be my last year, after more than a quarter century, holding an Illinois license and sporting Illinois plates on my Guzzi, I better find a way to get there.
After May., I become a Hoosier. God, help me.

****
"Over the hill?" My recollection of the event is that most of the "boys" attending are certainly that. ;D
Too smart to say anything about the "girls." :wife:
Seriously, I enjoyed that rally a few years ago and wish I could make another midwest event or two. Will be doing a two-day ride to Atlanta that weekend, and will think Guzzi thoughts along the way about you folks.
Best to all,
Bill

Bummer, I was really thinking about attending this until I saw the "NO PETS" part. If I can't bring my riding buddy then I guess I won't be going. I do hope you all have a great time!
-
Aparently someone was maled by a Chihawa a couple years back and that put an end family pets😳
-
Have a great time, guys--weather permitting I'll be visiting Rose Farm to tease out an annoying, unidentifiable buzz in my California 1400, and/or checking out the Brewtown Rumble in Milwaukee, and/or the antique bike show in Hebron.
-
Gots my camping gear (almost) ready. Gots my rain gear. ~; Gots my new magic hi tech bug destroyer.. ~; Serviced the AeroLario, I'm good to go. ;D
-
Packed up. Gassed up. Will leave at the crack on 9:30. This is a Guzzi rally not a an AKC show.
-
Waiting for the rain and wind to pass through.. ::) I'm a wimp in my dotage.
-
Rode wet roads ;D but no forecast rain to the rally. My light head shake that I hadn't had time to fix turned into moderate head shake and following rain grooves ::) when loaded down. Probably oughta fix that before the Nationals..
The Aero Lario was noticed by a few. ;D

I'm guessing that because of the weather forecast, people stayed away in droves. As the Turnip sez, "If you watch the weather channel, you'll never go anywhere.."

Sill, lots of fine people and machines were there.

Took advantage of the *fine* riding weather Saturday to just go out and enjoy the Lario without a load on.. ;D A lock on the mighty Mississip.

Now, we've had a Hipster thread, so let's talk about hipsters.. ~;
I'm terrible remembering names (and faces) ::) but I think it is Chris. This his his dad's old bike. The tank was toast, so he took out the angle grinder and made sparks. Cut the frame, too.. but didn't hurt the structural integrity.

Check out the alternator.. don't know why photobucket turned it sideways, but I'm too lazy to fix it.

Attaboy. The future is in good hands.
This was the 30th Illinois rally and possibly the last. Thanks to all for making it happen. It was a *good* time. Oh. That rain and thunderstorms all weekend?
Never happened. ;D
-
Chuck,Thanks for the Rally update,we got really lucky on the weather! LOVED the Aero Lario!!! Forever Guzzi...Jim (Guzzimatic) Walker

Don't know anything about hipsters ::)
Was nice meeting you Chuck. Look forward to seeing you at future rallies around the country.
Here are some pics of the alternator install if anyone is curious.

It was my dad's idea, worked out really well. Was able to eliminate a lot of wiring and having 35 amps ain't a bad deal either.
-
Wish I coulda made it down Saturday but we had prior engagements. :-\ I was glad that the weather held out for the rally though. All week there was rain forecast for the entire weekend, and in the end we only ended up with about a minute of rain from a brief cloud Saturday afternoon. ;-T
When it comes to weather forecasting in the Midwest, 100% of the time it's wrong 90% of the time.

Thanks for the pics guys ;-T Chuckie , why is this maybe the last Ill noise rally ? Oh , and the Turnip missed the Okie camp out last year , all because of a little rain , Beaver made it though , guess we know who the REAL rider is ;D
Dusty
After 30 years, I think they're getting tired. Dunno. Food was great, as usual, bands Friday and Saturday night were entertaining. Yeah, Tex wouldn't want to bring his pristine scooter out of the shed if it might get rained on.. ~; ;D
-
Turn out was the lowest I'v seen it since I started attending over a decade ago. A number was not given, that I know of, but it had to be less than 120, perhaps less than 100. The IL rally in the fat years would break 300!
I heard the boys are tired too, can't blame them, they have done a great job for long time. I also heard there are some younger folks who are willing to take it over, time will tell.
-
Announced attendance was 155 adults and 8-10 kids. Just a few years ago they were drawing 300+, Chad is correct. Not sure why, the same campground, great organization, friendly people, 2 bands, 24 hour adult beverages, and fantastic food you can't beat it. I don't know if it's the economy, or lack of amenities at the particular campground. Or older folks not able to ride anymore. And as far as the weather scaring off people, with predicted chance of rain all 3 days at 40-60% the trip from Chicago to the rally and back was about as nice as I've experienced in 20 years, with about 15 minutes of light rain in the middle of the day Saturday. I'll take it!

Well, that a bit higher than I figured. Bill, did they do any awards this year? Plenty of door prizes, but I didn't hear any of the usual awards presentations.
-
Guzzi rally attendance in general has been dropping off the last few years. There was "the economy" a few years ago when it seemed to have started, but I think the Guzzi riding population is ageing..

Guzzi needs to produce a Trike. ;D

These guys could probably help. The Cal 14 would probably be a good candidate for "the treatment".

I think we have gone round and round on this issue. Seems we don't really have a good solution.
-
Chad, they didn't do awards this year, and I'm not sure if they did any last year. JN a yearly winner but I think they are done giving out awards.
Plenty of door prizes though......!

Maybe only the rally-attending Guzzi-riding population is aging.
Lots of new riders out there, but many folks -- including this aging Guzzista -- just aren't as drawn to rallies as are others.
Nothing at all wrong with rallies, but such events are not everyone's shot of bourbon.

That could be true.. dunno.

Been busy, didn't know about it till now:(
I would've shown up for awhile on one day at least. Have four little boys so hard to get away for an entire weekend.
-
Unfortunately I committed myself to a camping trip at starved rock before I realized that was the Illinois rally weekend. As payback for my foolish choice we were swamped with rain

I enjoy the rallies and generally try and schedule at least one per month. They give me an opportunity to get out on the road, to see people I only meet once or twice a year and to check out how other riders set up their equipment.
Unfortunately, there are conflicts and I'm forced to miss some fun events. For example, last weekend I attended the European Rider's Rally in Burkesville, KY and missed Illinois. In June, I'm heading to Grand Marais, MN and will miss the very nice VA Rally.
OTOH, there are some fun events still on the schedule: Elkader, IA in July -- Lake Joy, WI in August -- Frankfort, KY in September -- The Falling Leaf in Potosi, MO in October -- Swampscooters in LA in November. It will be a good year.
Ride safe out there and looking forward to seeing you on the road.
