Ride it for a while before to commit to hacking it. Quota's have some incurable issues that ultimately caused me to sell mile after only 4 months & 5,500 miles.

I'm pretty familiar with their qwerks and problems...thanks for the heads up though.

What are those? I know some people that have put some long hard rough miles on Quotas .... ? This one here sure looks like a nice one ....

Like all Guzzi, there are several ;D
Off the top of my head...
rear ratio geared to high..
recall on rims...
not the best fuel milage...
cracking exhaust cross overs...
FI system seems to cause some problems...
sure there are more but you get the idea...hey it's a GUZZI

Yebbut, like all the other Guzzi issues, they're sure fixable! Once a recall is done, it's done. Fuel mileage and the FI system could be related and I'll bet some smart tuner has figured that out .... And I like high rear ratios!
Enjoy!

Fuel economy isn't the best, but by now most of the other stuff should have been sorted out. I love mine. I'm taking off in two weeks for a trip up to Minneapolis then over to Seattle.

The Super-Tall Gearing and Poor Wind Management were the two biggies for me. Loudest windshield I've ever sat behind. Even the tall touring screen was painfully loud with lots of buffeting.
The efi was no problem once Mike at MPH spent an hour with it.
Updated ECU was in mine from the factory.
My Excel rims never cracked.
Nice solid bike that was a near miss by Guzzi. It really needed lower gearing for its intended role. The fairing looks great but lots of buffeting and noise coming up off the sides. Gustafsson wing deflectors can help with that, though.
The plush, long travel suspension was really nice on rough roads.

Nice looking ride. I've always like the looks of the Quota. First thing I do on a bike if possible is to raise the final drive gearing to make it taller. Here, its already done.
Everything else mentioned as a negative seems rather minor.

pierence almost word for word.
Lannis,
If you like tall gearing the Quota is for you. 3rd gear is good up to about 75mph, 4th to 95 and 5th is rarely used.
My quota had all the "fixes" and fuel economy was not only poor but erratic. Riding the BRP one tank would average 28mpg next tank 35mpg. Only thing was for sure @ 150 miles you better start hunting for a gas station or hope you packed your walkin shoes.
I could have dealt with the fuel thing but wind noise was terrible anytime you were over 40mph. I had tall screens, short screens and the stock screen. Nothing helped. Even with rear plugs after 20 minutes at speed your ears hurt like you were at a heavy metal concert.
Is a shame as the bike handles beautifully. It certainly was not at a disadvantage on the tail of the dragon pushing it as hard I could. Put it in 3rd and roll on and off the throttle while tossing it side to side.
A DR650 has replaced my Quota and while I miss the torque of the Quota I don't miss the bike itself.

Ride on for and hour at highway speed and you'll realize the wind noise is anything but a minor issue.

I highlighted the problem and offer the solution.
Change the plugs from your rear and but them in your ear.

Greg's site has a lot of good info for Quota owners...I especially like the write ups on wind deflectors and carb conversions...

It's kinda sad that Guzzi gave up on the Quota instead of debugging it- Would have been nice to have an alternative to the oil heads in the market. Compared to the airhead GS, the Quota has a lot of advantages- stronger frame and transmission, runs cooler, better brakes, etc.. When hack'd, the Quota's qualities become even more apparent... Airhead simple maintenance with the ability to run the legal limit bucking the worst headwinds while hauling a lawnmower or whatever in the 'hack. With abilities like that, I can put up with the occasional fouled plug and bigger bill at the gas pump.

I swapped in a different rear drive for lower gearing one riding season in my Quota, didn't like it. Switched it back for the next season. Then I put a sidecar on it, thought for sure I would want the lower gearing on it. Nope, still have the stock gearing.
