So as you guys know, I put a set in the Guzzi. I really thought they'd be louder, but still I wasn't unhappy. After that I got a K&N air filter for it. Still thinking of a louder Guzzi, I bought a new cross over pipe to replace the 3rd muffler. With all three things the bike has really come to life, with way way faster acceleration, and yes I've achieved making it louder. It's not too over powering, for me it's just right. Has anyone else seen that kind of performance improvements from doing the same?
Thanks Matt

If the combination of crossover, backpressure and pipe length are pleasing to the Guzzi Gods then yes, you will feel it.

Yes. I also cut the crossover extensions off so the muffler's expanding conical portion was not wasted. What bike is yours?

I did the same, but got a dynolink tune with a PCIII years ago and picked up about 8bhp and better mileage

I've got a 2004 California EV.

Shortly after I got my EV, I added the Fast by Ferracci air filter kit and H-pipe crossover. The open intake makes itself known when giving it the beans, and the H-pipe gives the exhaust a nice rumble. It's louder than stock and sounds ferocious even with the stock mufflers, but isn't "loud" as to be annoying to me and obnoxious to the public. It's really a "just right" volume.
A couple years later I finally bit the bullet and bought a new pair of LaFranconi Competizione mufflers because I like that they're the same shape as the stockers, and read so many glowing reviews about their sound and performance. Well, the performance was definitely there. The bike was notably quicker, but when combined with the open intake and the H-pipe, it was just obnoxiously loud, at least it was for me. During extended periods of steady-throttle cruising, the droning grew tiresome, and the volume just penetrated my eardrums to where it was making my rides less enjoyable and made me feel almost embarrassed as I was constantly feeling like everyone I'd pass was thinking of me as "just another typical biker asshole." I hate obnoxiously loud bikes and the riders who believe everyone within a 5 mile radius needs to hear them. Plus, there was a good bit of crackling and popping on deceleration that it just made the whole thing sound too unrefined.
After only about 1000 miles of use, I swapped them back out for the stockers and haven't regretted it since (except for the money wasted on the Competiziones). They still sit packed up in their shipping box in my attic.
Like I said, they proved their performance gains, especially in the middle of the rev range, but I could not stand the volume, and couldn't escape the feeling of looking like a complete asshole to the general public. My current setup sounds like a nice, tuned V8 with a refined, well-engineered exhaust system. With the Competiziones, it sounded like someone just running open headers on their beat-up truck. And nobody likes "that guy".
Besides, if I get the itch for that added performance and attention (and then some), I've got Ol' Yeller at the ready. 8)

They are those exact mufflers. As far as selling them, I'm still on the fence about it, as if some reason some day I may feel like putting them back on. :-\
