Title: warning Dairy land ins
Post by: Vagrant on May 08, 2015, 05:24:57 PM
I had Dairyland ins on my 2012 Gold wing 2001 Guzzi California and 2010 Guzzi Stelvio. Full coverage, $500 deductible. 100/300/500 and max of uninsured and under insured. before I bought the 2015 Versys 1000 I called the agent with the serial # and he quoted within $2. a month of the current Stelvio I was selling. total annual premium for all 3 was $810. well I bought the Versys the same day and cancelled the Stelvio. 3 days latter the new bill showed up. $1,450. they had decided to make it a sport bike. USE CAUTION!!! I went to Allstate, added it to my cars and home. same coverage $510. a year at least for now.  to add insult to injury they are billing me $30. for 3 days and refusing to re-fund me for the unused month siting the policy change and the cancelation removes the winter lay up!

The're all crooks as far as I'm concerned.  The game is to find the lesser of all the evils.   >:(

I`ve been with Geico and they have been great. Just for fun I called Progressive to insure an 2014 MV Agusta F4 and was quoted $6000 per year!  Stayed with Geico of course since it was $750 annually. It pays to shop!

Did you give Dairyland an opportunity to correct their mistake ? I have known the big A to totally screw up MC policies , don't be surprised if your next renewal rates have dramatically changed  :o

I agree ... when I were a young lad with no riding history, Dairyland was the only company that would insure me.   I never claimed on them (or any other insurance company in the last 45 years), but they got me on the road cheap when no one else would.

I'd take a shot at getting the $810 rate back, and asking why they changed it, since your bike isn't a "sport bike" regardless of what they "decide" and you'd like to hear a reason why they bait-and-switched you.   'Cause that's what it sounds like the agent did.   Give his boss a chance to fix it.

Probably not a mistake by the agent , these decisions are usually made at the corporate level . As for Dairyland , they pulled out of the Oklahoma market in the early '90s because they were ordered to pay on a policy that was lapsed out . Geico does seem to have the best structure for insuring MCs .

This morning I noticed USA today said Oklahoma has the greatest number of un-insured motorists in the country 26%.

Dairyland sucks.

They were downright rude to me on the phone after I reported that someone hit my PARKED CX and claimed I was a bad risk. They never had to pay a claim for my two bikes and dropped my coverage. My insurance agent said they have changed since those days. Evidently not, based on the above.

Your agent makes a difference. I had several bikes insured with Progressive. Before I bought my Norge I called to check my rate. I forget exactly but I remember saying "That's cheaper than my 1987 VFR700." When I actually bought the bike it was over triple. I called a local dealer I am friends with and asked who they had been recommending. I then called there and got a quote for all 4 bikes for less than they wanted for the Norge alone. The amazing part is it was with Progressive. Currently I am a 59 year old with 2 speeding tickets (one falls off this year  ;-T) and my 1998 PC800, 2003 Honda TRX 350 ATV, 2012 Suzuki V-Strom 650 and the 2014 California Touring costs me $550 a year total for a lot more than minimum coverage. Nobody can touch it.
State Farm goes by displacement. I have my 1972 Suzuki TS90, 2002 Yamaha Razz 50 and 2005 Yamaha Zuma 50 insured at the minimum required coverage plus comprehensive for under $25 each a year. One of them I think is $17.

first I called my Former! agent, now that I have nothing insured with him he said for me to call because he had no leverage anymore. he only insures play toys like cycles. no cars or homes.
so I called the home office of dairy land, first guy was a waste of time, I asked for a supervisor. I asked her if she ordered a steak from restaurant that was $20. and when the bill came it was a $100. bill would she pay it? she said she couldn't answer that question and I said she just did. she also refused to help. at 67 and with a 780 credit score they can kiss my A.. and I will never pay them that $29.44. by canceling early because of their new rate they removed all discounts including the winter lay up on all 3 bikes must be sorer losers than me.

I was not meaning your current agent.  I just meant that because agent X says this company costs this much agent Y may say something different.  After your experience if someone quoted a low rate with Dairyland I would say "Who is next lowest?"  You know they will gouge you as soon as they figure out who it is.
