Title: Norge misfiring
Post by: Far star on May 10, 2015, 09:35:31 PM
Well, it seems I can complicate a stick. The Norge was popping, crapping out, catching above 5000 rpm, running on 1 cylinder, and smelled of burnt rubber or wiring. Seeing as I just installed a louder horn and relay I thought I had screwed it up somehow, and baked the ecu or some other catastrophic eff up. Turns out the spark plug lead on the left cylinder was arcing to the head. All this high tech stuff leads to me assuming the worst. Ended up removing the airbox and panels etc. to check all the wiring BEFORE I checked the plug wire. Drat! Anyway, glad it was a simple fix. The bike has 16000 kms, anyone else run into this? Is this a common Guzzi issue?

It's a common issue if you don't take care removing the caps. The approved way is to stick a screwdriver in from the front through the cooling tunnel just above the exhaust header and pry the cap up. Best bet is to piss off the original crappy caps and go to a set of NGK HB05E's

I keep thinking I need to change the original plug caps on the 09 Stelvio at 35K miles but it never misses a beat, no funny-acting instruments, and I hate to screw around with something that's working ....

This is how I do it.  When using a zip tie I put it through backwords so I can use it again.
