I have a customer with gout that is looking for a more comfortable bend bar for his Griso. It seems the Mana bars seem to do it for a lot of people. Is there anyone out there who could share there experience? Any pics?
-
I'm confused, Norge or Griso? Gonna be a lot harder to install on a Norge.
-
This may help? Last picture claerly shows risers that work on a Norge.

Mana bars on my Griso. They're 45mm narrower and have more pull-back.

The bar mounts for the Norge and Griso are completely different from one another. Mana bars aren't going to work on a Norge without a lot of work.
I believe he is talking about a Griso.
This is how the Norge bars are mounted and comparing that to the above picture you can see the big difference.
It comes down to what Waltr is talking about, a Griso or a Norge. Griso, see above. Norge, see below.

I've got mana bars on my 1100 Breva. Why wouldn't they work on a Norge?

Do your bars mounts as pictured above ^^^ ?

Yes, if you remove the Norge risers and replace them with 1200 Sport risers.

Yes, if you remove the Norge risers and replace them with 1200 Sport risers.
The risers in the picture are ones I put on, they are not stock. The stock handlebars on the Norge are cast items, not tube style. Perhaps you can explain better what you are talking about?
I looked at the pictures you referred to, they aren't going to fit on a Norge and the bike shown isn't a Norge either unless the fairing was removed. Can you please clarify exactly how a Mana tube style handle bar fits onto a sort of clip-on style Norge mounting point?
-
I think I see what you're talking about. You are replacing the entire mounting point with another and then adding the Mana bars, is that correct?
If that is correct, do the cables and such need to be lengthened? I ask because with just a 1" rise, there is no additional slack in the cables or tubing left to go any higher.
What happens to the vibration isolation mounts for the standard Norge bars?
-
Norge & Breva take oversized bars if you swap the uprights that hold the stock tubular bars... and replace with the risers/clamps from a Sport 1200. This worked great on my B1100 but can't say if it would interfere with the Norge fairing.
That is the route I went, and I used a ProTaper kx High bar which cost at least $100 less than the Mana piece... Tho the stock bar ends will not fit & you have to sort your own locating holes. I added hand guards when I swapped my bars so the weighted bar ends were not an issue for me.
On the GRiSO is should be a straight swap, unless cable lengths become an issue due to some crazy high rise bars.

Here's how it goes on a Breva, still not sure if you are talking about a Norge or GRiSO

In looking at that solution, it would appear that the swap, even with Mana bars would not come close to the height of the stock Norge bars as they are. The Norge bars come up quite a bit and the Mana bars would be much lower. Then you'd end up using riser blocks or something else to get back to standard height, having accomplished nothing but spending money.
Taking the picture of the Breva as the example, the Norge bar rise quite higher than they go. I used spacers to gain an additional 1" which means an even higher riser block going the Mana route.
It does appear it could work but spacers cost about $20 tops with new bolts and the vibration isolators are retained. What the spacers can't do is alter the width of the bars nor the contour of the pull back as they affect the ends of the bars.
It does look like there is another alternative though so I'm glad the thread progressed to this point, now there is another solution for everyone interested. ;-T ;-T ;-T ;-T

I'm in the process of putting 1200 sport bars and F. forks on my Norge. I'm using a 1" spacer below the bar mounts.
Will report back soon with pics.

It looks like the 1200 Sport risers would open up a whole world of possibilities for Norge riders. There are many bars available but very few other options for changing our handlebar height and pull-back.
Sport 1200 risers with something like these might be great:

I made the correction. DUH! Was talking about a Griso. Thanks all for the info and pics. The narrower Mana bars look good for the Griso.
-
I had a G11 with stock bars and now have a 1200S that I converted to Mana bars. The Manas will be significantly narrower and have more rise and pull back. This all makes for a much more natural arm position. With the standard "flat" bars, your elbows are sticking out to the side. Pull back allows your elbows to drop down. I'm sure the change will be welcome.

Do your bars mounts as pictured above ^^^ ?
That's mine with Mike Bui 1.5" risers, didn't have to change the cables either.

The title of the thread changed so that kinds discounts the Norge idea some. That doesn't look any higher than stock 2nd Gen Norge bars as they come from the factory.
Stock, the Norge bars have a 7.5" rise from the top of the triple clamp to the center line of the handbar to the point to which the grip is mounted. With the 1" spacer mod it is of course 8.5"
The rear pull as modded is 6.5" from the fork tube center to the middle of the hand grip at a right angle.
It looks like your setup looks quite a bit lower than that.
Maybe you could take a measure and post that so anyone thinking about Mana bars on a Norge would know ahead of time if it is even worth trying?
