Title: Location of 850T rear brake light switch
Post by: tenelson on May 13, 2015, 10:41:15 PM
My 850T did not come with a rear brake switch, which is not ideal for safety reasons. I'd like to install a switch, but I don't know where it mounts. Does anyone have a photo of the rear brake switch mounting setup on the 850T?

I don't have a photo handy but, it hangs from a right angle bracket that is attached to the left battery tray to frame bolt. It's a pull switch that is linked to the brake linkage by a spring. It's not easy to find in the parts manual or in the parts bin. I think it's NLA.

With a T you will be using the front brake anyway so the brake light will be lit. Trust me on this.

Two Checks is right. My switch spring broke decades ago. But if you need one to pass an inspection, Emco makes a pull switch for old Triumphss that could be fiddled to work.

Ok, I can visualize that. Sounds like I need to start scouring eBay for a used part plus the bracket. I mostly use the front brake, but for slow speed stuff around town, I use the rear brake more. Which is where I'm more worried about getting rear ended.

I'm redoing an 850T as well. The original rear brake switch corroded and fell off years ago. However, looking at where it mounts (down below, underneath and behind), I didn't even bother looking for an OEM switch. As has been mentioned, a standard,  weather-proof pull switch will do the job.

Lateness.

Both pieces you need are the same as on a late V7 Sport. The original switch, part no. 1474 1110, looks like this:

The mounting bracket, part no. 1474 2900, is an "L" shaped piece.

You might check with Harper's to see if they have them.
