Quite a few years ago I started using Hexis masking to protect finishes from road grunge and rock chips, thought I'd pass it on.
There are other materials that will do pretty much the same thing but Hexis seems to be readily available at many plastics stores. Out here, I get the stuff at Tap Plastics. It comes in a variety of colors and it relatively inexpensive. The good thing about it is that there is no permanent adhesive and it goes on without any special tools, lasts a long time and when you remove it, no residue is left behind.
I cut strips and put them on the fork lowers since they are prone to getting dinged up. You can get creative and cut out a shape to cover the entire fork lower, getting into all the nooks and crannies but I've just just strips and gone that route.
With the Norge I use white and cut round disk shapes and use them to cover the screw holes molded into the fairing and lowers. While it isn't a perfect match, from a few feet away it is hard to tell the holes are there unless you look hard and the added bonus is that should a screw come loose (we're talking MGs here) it can't simply fall out and away, never to be found again. I use a straight pin to put a tiny hole in the center so that it goes on flush because the screws for the fairing seat with washers that otherwise create a pressure that pushes the Helix out as a bubble.
To cut the disks I use an Exacto compass. Neat little thing. When the bike goes in for service I just peel them off beforehand so that a screw doesn't get missed and someone pulls too hard not knowing one is left.
Anyway, here are some pics. Apologies for the one that didn't rotate when I saved it.

I used gold because I had some. It does come in just about any color you might need including the silver metallics.

and from a few feet away. It gives the Norge a cleaner look.

Another tip to remember if not put to use right away. Thanks
