Title: Carb float height setting PHF36, Le Mans 2
Post by: Dukedesmo on May 20, 2015, 03:43:01 PM
Been overhauling the carbs today, got them nice & clean and fitted new gaskets, 'O' rings etc. but wanting to check the float heights and have conflicting information.

Haynes manual states 18.5mm for 10g floats whereas the Guzzi manual I downloaded says 23.5mm. As it stands the RH is 21.5 and the LH is 18.5.

So what should it be? 18.5, 23.5 or ??   ???

Definitely 18.5 http://www.thisoldtractor.com/dellorto_setting_the_float_height_on__carburetors.html (http://www.thisoldtractor.com/dellorto_setting_the_float_height_on__carburetors.html) as described. Setting them at 23.5 makes for a lean hesitation during acceleration.  My settings: AB268 needle jet, k18 needle, 130 main jet and 50 idle.

Thanks, that link is interesting as I was wondering exactly how they should be measured because if upright (as shown in the Haynes manual) then the measurement is significantly less.

I took my measurements with the carb slightly inclined until the float would just sit against the valve but not fully depress the spring as that's the way I'm used to doing it for FCRs on my Monster.

Carbs currently fitted with AB265 needle jet, K5 needle, 148 main and 60 idle which, apart from the 148 main, tally with the manual. Don't know why the main is so big as the bike had stock exhausts? although I am now fitting Lafranconi competizione with 40mm downpipes so need to look into that when it's running.
