Title: V7 Classic slider size?
Post by: jackson on May 22, 2015, 03:43:27 PM
Can anyone verify the actual diameter of the fork sliders on the V7 Classic (mine is a 2010 model).  I want to mount some lower driving lights to form a triangular light pattern.  I've done this on several Beemer that I owned and it worked well for making drivers (in cars) from pulling out in front of me.  I've done my best to measure the sliders and it appears that they're 52mm in diameter but it's difficult to be absolutely sure.  I've done some searching but can't get a solid answer.
Verification will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks but I already read that thread and it's not correct.  One of the posters said: "The V7c fork tubes are 40mm dia, measured lower forks dia. are 59mm".  I measured mine several times and they're somewhere between 50mm -52mm and are definitely not 59mm
But thanks again for attempting to point me to the correct answer.

For anyone else who is considering this and needs the info, I received an email from Guzzi Steve who is a Guzzi mechanic:

"Happened to see your post, so I measured a set yesterday at work.
51.5mm half way down to axle"

Thanks, Steve
(BTW: someone else had posted in this thread with some measurements but the post disappeared when the server started experiencing problems this morning)

That was me - wondered why my yesterday's posts disappeared.

I measured the forks on the '14 V7 Special - my verniers said:
stanchions = 39.9mm (so, the verniers may be a little off)
lower tube (measured just under the fork brace - RHS = 50.9mm fore to aft & 51.1 left to right
LHS = 50.4mm fore to aft & 50.9 left to right/inside to outside.
The 59mm measurement is that of the upper part of the fork tube above the fork brace that flares out & holds the clamp on the gaiters.

I will check the '10 V7C when I can get access to it, but doubt if it will be significantly different. I've mounted the lights on that bike (now Denali D2's) on a fabbed up bracket on the stanchion - above the lower fork yoke. Planning on another set of Denali D2's for the Special. Once you have the addtional light, just can't seem to do without them.

BTW, Denali have an "articulated mount" that looks interesting.

Let us know how you go fitting those lights.

Mal
