Title: Help sorting starter circuit wiring pls UPDATE
Post by: boatdetective on May 23, 2015, 12:26:42 PM
Hey there- I'm rooting through the wiring on the V50 and want to straighten things out. It has a Dyna S ignition- So I know parts of this will not fit into the original factory diagram (which I have).

So- I definitely have power to the coils (11.57VDC)
I've switched the coils- and the problem does not move side to side- The coils are good (the problem is when they are cold- it isn't as if a circuit opens when the coils are hot).

I had sent the sensors out to Dyna for testing and they said they were good...BUT it seems that the problem is between the rotor and the coils.

I had the rotor and advance serviced/lubed, but i haven't been in there since. Any clue on how to test if one of the sensors is NG?

Thanks!

You may have found it.

Both coils should be hot on the switch (15) side with the key on.  If one is not, then get power to it and see if the problem goes away.

Less than 12v is a pretty discharged battery.  I would expect to see 12.6 to 12.8 volts at the coils unless the headlight is on at the same time.  Can you jumper it from a fully charged battery and see if the problem goes away?

Also, originally your post mentioned the white wire from the coils to the kill switch.  Did you figure it out?  I'm pretty sure it remains attached to the coil.

Cheers,
Shawn

Not to be arguing, Shawn, but if the battery voltage was the problem, would it not affect both coils?  I just don't connect it to a consistent problem with one coil . . .
