Title: New Here from the UK! Looking For A V11!
Post by: Big Tav on May 26, 2015, 05:00:53 PM
Hi guys, I am new to the site and am in Edinburgh Scotland. I was looking to get a BMW R1200S but the review I read said I should consider a V11 Lemans as well which got me
looking and I really like them!

I don't know what one to go for yet or what they are worth as they don't come up often. To look at I like the V11 Le Mans Tenni and I saw a Cafe Sport with Ohlins that looked good too.

Does anyone have any advice for me on what I should look for?

If anyone hears of a great bike for sale in the UK that is a good price please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi, Big Tav.. and welcome to WG.
Can't go wrong with a V11S, but IMHO go for the Ohlins equipped models. Avoid the single plate clutch models (unless upgraded) and you'll be a happy Guzzisti.  ;D

Last year of production (2004) seem to be pretty well sorted. Seems like $5000-5500 for a decent pretty much stock example.

Hello -

I have a later model 2004 V11 with Ohlins suspension, and I am extremely happy with it.  I recommend the following web site.
It is dedicated to the V11. Many of your questions will be answered.

And found mostly on the usual suspects over there - MCN, Gumtree & eBay. Google "moto guzzi V11 UK" and browse through the listings. Also check out the clubs (MGC GB) and forums (V11 Le Mans, Guzzi Rider, etc). I picked up a mint 2014 Le Mans last year for L3,600 - it was on MCN. The V11's for sale were all over the island, but the 1100 Sports seemed to all in the north. I was told that a bike could be shifted anywhere on the mainland for L90 or so. But it's a small country, so you could always train it (once you figure out how to the long distance train tickets cheaply - there's an art to it) and ride.

There doesn't seem to be many V11's around over there at present, but that could/should change.

Enjoy the hunt & good luck,

Mal

My 2002 Scura covered 50000km and had the single plate clutch and ohlins. The clutch was noisy as hell!

I'd say don't be worried if you see a nice one just use it as leverage in negotiating your purchase, it was the freest revving V11 I'd ever ridden.

If you're a technical type the ohlins forks on the 03-04 bikes are superior and have a hollow front axle vs the earlier solid axle. That said the solid axle screwing in to the opposing fork leg was convenient for tyre changes etc.
