Title: Chugga, chugga POP
Post by: WP2 on June 01, 2015, 08:01:52 PM
 I have a question.
About 4 times in the last week I've attempted to start the bike (warm) - hit the button, it cranks and no start. Off the button and try again - backfire and starts and runs fine.
Thoughts?

Look at / replace the spark plugs.
Report back.

try these two things:

wait 15sec between key/kill on and starter engage

toggle kill button before first start

the 15sec thing is supposed to allow the ecu time to sort itself out -- read sensors and such.  Might be an urban myth, but can't hurt anything.

the kill button toggle I can't explain, but one of my 15M bikes can be 'cranky' if I just turn the key and go.  If I turn the kil button on/off/on it starts smoothly.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'm on it tomorrow after work and will report back.

I asked about intake or exhaust because exhaust would tend to indicate that the ignition was faulty and allowed air and fuel to build up in the exhaust system, and then that ignited when you tried again.  The answers above seem relevant.

Next time cycle the ignition switch a few times, it might need cleaning.
