I think i finally got this thing working, new old stock frame from harpers, rings, crank seals, new chinese carb, found out I was setting the points to the wrong mark, took it out for a ride in the dark and the lights just kind of glow at wot. So short of a battery should the lights work better? I know they will be dim at idle but was hoping for a little more.

Perhaps a good case for LED lighting. A lot more light from a lot less amps.

Bicycle lighting is amazing these days. USB rechargeable stuff is, well, amazing.

Bike lights, including a rear blinker are a must.. even WFO the lamp is simply not going to be bright.. I am running a 12v light, not much of an improvement

Now that I have the Robin owners attention, would anyone have the a spare nut that holds the rotor on the end of the crank? Robin project #2 is missing it. Also still looking for a center stand.

Can't help on the parts... I can't get mine started.. it was running like a top last time I had it out in April... Just took it out of the unit to clean up for selling.. can't get the dang thing to start.
NC just added a License plate requirement for mopeds & scooters... which means you have to certify & pay to get a title first.. plus the tag fees and renewals.. More of the NCGA war against the poor. Hopefully I can get it sold with a bill of sale before July 15th

Is this a 6 or 12v system?
It seems an LED headlight @ 15 - 35w ought to light up as far as a moped needs to see.

You're not going to get a lot of light out of that system. :laugh:
I don't know what your socket looks like, but something like this:

would draw ~7w @6v. Sockets are cheap -- don't let the contact layout disappoint you.
If you replace all your bulbs with led your power draw would decrease to about 10% of what it is now. A lot of 12v led are actually variable voltage. We throttle them down to decrease brightness on dash lights and such all the time. Right now I'm tinkering with resistors to bring my dash lighting down to a reasonable level -- and I'll be running a dimmer switch to stifle them even more. So experimenting with 12v LED isn't going to damage anything, and the worst you'll be out is a few bux. Running at half power you could use 12v led elements in a number of 6v applications like brake, tail, and turn. That might not mean much until you use the savings to run the headlight.
Also, I run a 1w superbright white bulb in the parking light hole of my EV headlight. It's bright enough to light my way into the carport at night, and light enough to make my headlight visible in daylight -- doesn't project useful light in the daytime, but it makes the headlight reflector glow. That satisfies the troopers up here with respect to lights-on-in-the-daytime. If you plan to run this machine in daylight only, it would be a solution . . .
