Title: NGC-Fresnel Lens
Post by: redrider on June 09, 2015, 08:32:08 AM: Any one here play around with one? I scavenged one from a discarded Sony projection TV and have seen some high powered demos on 'tube. Solar forge, pool heater-oh, the possibilities.

I still have the setup from 1970 when I bought a 14" lens from Edmund Scientific and built it into a frame and a little crucible below.

You could melt a penny in that thing. I didn't do anything useful with it except see what I could melt with it. You have to have some sort of tracker to keep it pointed at the sun for best efficiency.

There's a simpler way to do that that doesn't involve a Fresnel lens .... !

Post by: rodekyll on June 09, 2015, 12:53:48 PM: That's what makes a lighthouse work. I use them in camera viewfinders for my old 35mm Nikons and all my large format equipment. They really make use of available light.
