Hey folks-
I'm thinking of attaching some lightweight tubes on the inside of my HB racks to hold a tool roll or tent poles. Any thoughts? 3" dia PVC is just too heavy. A thin wall aluminum tube might be good- but i can't think of any resource or end caps.

The standard item for ADV riders is a tube designed to hold manuals on a tractor.
Search to ADV riders site for details.

See of there aren't any surplus centrifuge tubes on eBay from Iran.

Great suggestion! I couldn't find them on AdvRider, but these "manual canisters" must be what you mean:

There is also a 2-inch diameter, 9-inch long version at the same site.
These are what I had been looking for before I gave up and fitted two leather two tool rolls to my Griso's saddlebag racks.

That's it.
A lot of riders swear by them. It does look like just the thing in most cases.

The $20 MegaTube looks like the larger version of the $4.99 operator's manual tube from agrisupply.com, with the lettering rubbed off with acetone. You can see all three widths, including the 2-inch model, here:

Here's a discussion on AdvRider of the 3-inch model:

How about a marine chart tube?

Again, the source of all things useful - McMaster-Carr:
Can't get part nos to copy right now but search Al tube by diameter desired and "metal" end caps also available.
Edit: here's one part no to get on the right page: http://www.mcmaster.com/#9056K41

How about a marine chart tube?
Do realize how few charts I see these days. These clowns bet everything on GPS plotters. It's depressing.

Thanks, just bought a lockable Mega Tube for my tools. Just gotta find a place to hang it on my V7 Special.

My current chart lives under 'glass on the cabin table, usually marked up on the glass with a grease pencil. The adjacent charts live in a tube. I don't trust these computer things and somehow planning routes on paper seems more 'real' to me.

I have one of the tractor tubes mounted to the inside of the RH ammo can. Fits just right. I keep my tire and cable repair stuff in it.
My tent poles are 26" long. I have a fly rod travel case I have used to carry them. Strapped to one side case. I will be changing to a PVC tube. I realized that a fly rod is expensive, hence, tend to be stolen. A PVC tube, not so much.
The Al tubes are nice and I have seen them with nice mountings. But, price is a bit steep for me.
