Title: Win 10
Post by: LowRyter on June 15, 2015, 09:59:54 AM
I received a push from Microsoft allowing me to schedule an upgrade of my Win 8 to a Win 10.  I doubt it could be much worse.

Anyone else have Win 10?

What happened to 9

  Dusty

I heard that some software detects Windows 95 and 98 by looking for the "9", and could therefore think Windows 9 was 98, so they skipped to 10.

Think its open for a year to upgrade.

From what I read its better than 8 but if using 7 the choice is a bit more subjective.

I'm sticking with 7, don't see the need to give myself endless grief & could not stand the idea of Cortana.

I'd also wait until the "early adopters" iron out the bugs, rather than be a research vehicle for Microsoft

I'm going to wait till the first service pack comes out for it ,before I upgrade,if I ever do

Just don't download KB 3035583 ,KB 2952664 and KB 3068708 ...I find it very sneaky from Microsoft for saying its an important update ,but wont give a real good description of what it truly is...even when you go on their site its not clear.

Wow TJ- that's a confidence builder.

For me, nothing about Microsoft inspires confidence, which is why I don't use any of their products.

I've got a version of Win 10 loaded on a test machine. Not a bad operating system, but it wants to force you into the Microsoft Ecosystem by making you get an account, using their app store so you get their apps etc., etc.

Thanks for posting that.  Just removed those updates from both of our Windows desktop computers and my laptop.  Sneaky bastards.

I totally agree with your statement.......... .....BUT........... .....We own an Apple Pro Desktop, two iphones, an Ipad and a couple of Ipods.............. .....and their products (primarily their software) is constantly causing a problem on one or more of those devices.  Both of my sons have a mixture of MS and Apple devices and have the same experience.  So, IMO; one is as bad as the other.

The tin foil hat brigade has a lot to say on this topic.  The (conspiracy) theory is that once you get 10 loaded and join the flock Microsoft will begin a pay-as-you-go system of upgrades.  Just like you no longer own a copy of Word, you just pay to use it, so it will be with your operating system.

Anyone want a free upgrade?

The less paranoid explanation reasons that all of China is running bootlegs so giving them a free upgrade is the only way to get them  (and their data) back on the reservation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's just that software-as-a-service (SaaS) is the next thing. It's becoming common in big enterprise systems already. And you are already familiar with iTunes, in which you don't own those songs, you just paid a license fee to play them.

I find Apple products to be just as goofy as Microsoft's. I got an "Unknown Error -56" on iTunes yesterday--yes, that famous Apple usability.

10 looks fine to me om my test VM. If you upgrade within an year you get it for free.
Have you ever gotten an MS OS update for free?
I will upgrade my PC at home when it's there.

They don't like maintaining to much versions, and don't want the xp scenario again.
So 10 is announced as last OS, from there it will be updated in parts.

It will run without MS account. Just pull network while installing, there is an option to bypass the account signin. I have it running also without ms account.

If your software is not very old, it will run on 10, if it does on 7 or 8/8.1 it will do on 10.

Adobe has been doing this for awhile now. There's no turning back on the model. Adapt, adjust, overcome.

I guess even Bill has forgotten ME.  Not that I blame him - I would love to forget it myself, but it's like one of those train wrecks in people of walmart that you just can't un-see.

Seems like Microsoft has an almost every other one success rate. 7 has been good. 8 sucked. 10 should be back to good. I reserved my copy but I will wait to see what early adopters have to say.

You're actually good with that and keep coming back? Seems nonsensical to me.

took my son took several hours and phone calls to MS support to get back on the update schedule.  Apparently he changed hardware on his desktop and had to an issue.  Make sure you have your product key if you don't get updates (he got his last OS -win 7- from his college and it was a little dicey).
