All,
Wanted to do it for years...tried and failed several times. How do I add an avatar picture please? Something like a flying poodle?
Much thanks...gonna have some rainy down time.

They are usually limited by pixel size, different forums have their own limits. I take a normal picture and crop the part I like, then resize by pixels to meet the requirements while keeping the aspect ratio correct.

Tiger,
Played with change...no luck at all. How, exactly do you get an existing picture added for avatar? Photobucket?

This worked for me: I have a Photobucket account. For copying an image to a post from Photobucket you click on the "img" address, the 4th/bottom choice on the right side of the window with your proposed avatar displayed in it. But dont do that. That did not work for the avatar, so I just tried them until one worked: second one down, "direct." Copied that and pasted it into the appropriate field in my profile. ('Specify avatar by URL'.)
I made my avatar in Photoshop Elements, sizing it to 383 pixels/side, which someone (Rocker?) said is the max size; saved that as a JPEG for uploading to Photobucket.
When I finally got the right address in the 'specify avatar' field I hit return and it was done. I just fumbled through all that again tonight, as my avatar mysteriously vanished after making an unrelated change in my profile--operator error, I have no doubt.
For what it's worth all this was done using a MacBook Pro.

Tom,
Trial and error...mostly the latter. Now get a click for photos thingy. Any other ideas please?

LD, that's what happened to me when I made an unrelated change to my profile. Got the Click for Photos thing too. I ended up uploading yet another (identical) version of my homemade avatar to Photobucket, linked it to my profile as I described, and when I hit return, my correct avatar was back. Damned if I know why it worked. At least you have a picture in place, you must be getting warm.
