2014 V7 Special.

Did my 1000km service last Friday. When I pulled the plugs, I noticed that on the right cylinder plug "colour change" on the strap is well below the "bend", whereas the left is right on the bend. This should mean the timing is slghtly off, no, as the right cylinder is getting hotter than the left?

Now, I've never ridden an EFI bike before in my life... and I have no idea how to correct this, or if I should even care. I am used to playing with, and endlessly tuning, carbs & timing to get everything "just right".

Anyone have any thoughts? Plugs are otherwise perfect.

Fueling is Lamda controlled but idle is, I believe, spark controlled, hence the slight surging on start up. Currently not much that can be done. Maybe with Rexxer Pro but that is a very expensive option.

When timing is bang on, the strap should change colour right at the bend. My left cylinder is perfect... My right however, the colour change is almost right at the threads.

I think he's worried about the very small discrepancies in behavior between the left and right cylinders. While there may be minor irregularities between the main and delta maps in the MUIG3 at idle the spark is going to be hopping about all over the place trying to maintain a steady idle. Once warm it seems to do this pretty well though.

The other thing is that as with all V twins with a shared crankpin one cylinder will be 'Lazy' and that affects burn rates and the like.

Keep in mind because of the extremes of tuning that EFI systems can operate at (lean or rich spots across the very same map) spark plug reading is basically dead as a tool. I mean, there are still some basics...wet still means something in diagnostics, or some extreme conditions shown on the plug means there could be a problem somewhere in the map. But generally speaking you can't read a plug without a plug chop.

Later, one pipe will turn blue more than the other and you will say " oh oh".

"Why is that?" Others might ask?

And I will say, " Maybe one valve adjustment is a little different than the other side?"

And someone else will say ......

I always pay attention to Pete.  But what does this mean?   What is "lazy"?  Why is that a characteristic of common crank V twins?  Please educamate me.

Since the V-twin with a common crank throw fires asymmetrically, one side 'leads' the other (putt1-putt2---putt1-putt2---putt1.  . . .).  The leading pot (putt1) works harder.  Putt2 is called 'lazy'.
