Title: Finally Vapor Blasting In Michigan

A friend of mine has just purchased a vapor honing/blasting machine to add to his business in Muskegon, MI. He says it will be set up this week sometime. So motorcycle/auto aluminum parts can now be cleaned and finished here instead of sending to North Carolina.

I have been using Jonathon at Vapor Honing Technologies for my Vapor Blasting. http://vaporhoningtechnologies.com/
He is in NC and I assume that is who the OP is referring to. He has been getting more into the sale of equipment rather than the actual blasting lately. I have been very tempted to pick up a blaster myself. The results are amazing.

I got an estimate of $60 for two carbs from a local vapor blasting outfit--does that sound about right?

You guys have the right guy in NC. I've used John a lot and had a long conversation with him about marketing his vapor blasting machines to help him expand. The results are amazing.

Who/where did you get the quote for $60 for 2 carb bodies?

A guy here in Santa Fe. You disassemble the carbs and they'll also do the internals.

I send out boxes full of parts so I don't really know per part pricing. $60 seems a little high but when you get them back I think you would be happy that you spent the $60 on them.

I agree $60 is a little high. If you factor in shipping though it might be a wash. Also doing the internals could be an added benefit.

Does the vapor blasting change the dimensions of the internals? For carbs that could be a problem.

I asked the guy about that--he assured me that there was no problem with changing dimensions and he also said that it wouldn't weaken any threads. I'm still a little dubious about that.

I agree the threads would not be weakened. The dimensions probably wouldn't change because he probably shoots the slurry inside the carbs just enough time to clean them and not polish the surfaces. I'd have the exterior surfaces done without worry. I've polished carb slides before and that probably removes more material than vapor blasting. The slide polishing didn't affect the performance so I suppose the vapor blasting wouldn't affect it either.

This process sure makes the aluminum look beautiful.
