The rider's first thought was "disbelief that it happened"?

My first thought was disbelief that it hadn't happened sooner .... It's RACING, for heaven's sake .... People don't know if they're going fast enough until they DO crash ....

wow, too lose the front, he looked pretty well upright (and fast).  It sure seemed unexpected.  Glad Canet didn't hit the rail like bike did.

With all their resources and publicity they are trying to get from this, surely they didn't just build one bike????  Like Lannis said, "It's RACING, for heaven's sake".  And crashes happen in testing.

It sounds like hey just built one bike.

(I had the same thought)

I too was wondering about that (only one bike, really?)... doesn't seem to make any sense.

This is Pike's Peak fellas , not moto gp .

  Dusty

So really, a company sponsored team like this doesn't have a back-up plan?

REALLY?

With their resources, two bikes makes more sense. Lot of trial and error, and backup for other unforseen issues. And at the end, two bikes traveling around the show circuit. Double the publicity, and even sell one off to a collector to help offset costs.

Busting my nuts aside, this seems to be Victory feeling out a potential new sport or standard market using the modular engine of the Scout.

If that is the case, then 2 would make more sense for other reasons as well.

Walnuts , correct ? Seriously , having a ready to go back up bike doesn't generate the "race against time" drama and suspense that this scenario is creating . "Can they do it ?"

  Dusty

Which makes me wonder if they don't already have a back up bike or at least all the parts they need.

How much of reality TV is reality?

I think you guys figured it out.  Its a little like the Orange County Choppers shows of a few years back.  Can they get the bike done in time...They even have the goofy looking mechanic type guy with bad facial hair saying, they will get it done, period.

Did that ride yesterday. You would have to have a set of brontosaurus balls to do that. Much of the route all you see is blue sky off to one side with no guard rail. Gotta give em credit

The bike is a one-off from Roland Sands.  I guess there wasn't time, money or capacity to build two.

That crash was what, near a week ago. Plenty of time to make a nice video about it.

So I'm sure it's ready.

Don Canet... now there's a name out of the mists. Good on him for keeping his life in gear and on throttle.

All must not be lost.  I passed the Victory Race Truck at Russell Kansas today.  It was heading westbound towards Colorado.

So they did have a spare , or took a large detour , since RS's shop is in SoCal , and the last time I checked , Colorado was still West of Kansas . The fish do stinketh in Denmark

  Dusty

Yeah.  Not long after we talked on the phone, the big Victory Racing semi passed going westbound.

No telling what was in it, but it was headed to Colorado...

Man, I love this board.  We have intelligence all over the world.  Rocker got the info that the competition would pay to get.

+1 Armco would have killed him the way it bent.  Lucky to escape!

Color me "Outa touch" yet again.

"Victory Racing"?

Is that one of the Indians under there or a Proper Victory motor from a cruiser?

Sounds pretty!

Todd.

Custom race bike by RSD with a hotted-up version of the Indian Scout engine/transmission.  Custom tube frame and Ducati Panigale swingarm, with lots of super-trick stuff.

my guess is they want to build a Victory Sport Standard for production and are testing the waters.

I wonder if that is a tube frame or monocoque?  Not many tubes.

Yes.  Victory actually had what became the Scout engine before the new Scout was ever dreamed of.  When the Polaris Indian thing happened, and took off, the driveline was moved from Victory to Indian, so Indian could have an entry-level machine.

Yes.  Polaris is going to do different things with Victory, now that Indian can carry the retro luxo barge banner.  The Scout engine/transmission is a peach and will likely end up in a sporty-standard Victory machine.

I hope they kick some ass at Pikes Peak, so as to encourage the powers-that-be at Polaris.

Not much frame to straighten , hope they got a good deal   Wait , that still doesn't explain the Victory race bike truck that Rocker saw in Kansas

Was it just one of their new bike delivery trucks with the race team logo for branding purposes.

Looked all the world like one of the semis you might see at a race track.

OTR tractor with large condo sleeper.  High-Cube trailer with full wrap graphics stating "VICTORY RACING TEAM".

Could've had some pro-stock drag bikes in it, I guess.

I just thought it was coincidental that it was on I-70 heading toward Denver.

Maybe they'll be using it as a support truck / party truck at the paddock at the bottom of the mountain.

Who knows?
