Title: 1974 Eldorado not sleeping in barn anymore.
Post by: bassa99 on June 27, 2015, 01:33:27 PM: Just brought home Eldo from long time buddy that has had bike in his family since new. Bike sat for about ten years without being ridden. He put it in service and rode it about 5000 miles since
1991.
It is on lift and I dropped oil pan and found what appears to be small rubber bits what could this be? Also the oil has very small specs of chrome with some collected against oil screen.
I know I will have to replace cylinders, should the lower end be torn down or can I some how rinse out this area?
Plan to remove heads next week to see how bad bores are.

Post by: Testarossa on June 27, 2015, 02:26:49 PM: Rubber bits come from the timing chain tensioner. Chrome flakes mean the cylinder liners are shot, and since the chips floated through the oil lines, all the crank bearings are probably scored and therefore must be replaced. Enjoy the process!

that's what I found to be in my 850. Once they start to wear down, they go quick
