I often look at my 1200 Sport, sitting aside my 2012 Griso and 1991 BMW R100GS, and try to determine why I like one more than the other. Their lines are nothing alike. Is it their lines, or how they fit what I need a bike to do? For some reason, the Sport hits the bulls eye. The other bikes would probably do as well. Or not.

This will probably sound too woo woo, but in the end it is metaphysical. Sure, a bike must meet the rider's objective needs but there is so much more to it that that. Is the bike pleasing to the owner's eyes? Does it feel and sound and small like that someone's archetypical motorcycle? Does it remind that rider of places been and roads traveled? A bike is part machine, part a suit of clothing and part object for meditation. No idea why in specific one motorcycle fits and another doesn't. Isn't it great that so many different types have been made?
