Title: 1997 1100 Sport 1100i canister removal
Post by: Rosso Woody on June 28, 2015, 10:28:06 AM
Anyone on here have experience removing the canisters of a Sport 1100 ie? I have been trying to  search the internet for the tubing diagram for the european models to remove the canisters and see where everything runs.

I looked at a euro spec tank and there is only one nipple coming from the bottom of the tank. I am thinking the only nipple I need to hook up is for the top of tank for the overflow and vapor recovery. Plug off the other nipple and the nipples on the fuel injectors?

Any help would be appreciated....

The line that runs from the tank to the vapor canisters is your vent. It should have a check valve in it. You don't want to plug this or you'll create a vacuum in the tank. I usually leave this line intact and route between the starter and transmission. The check valve should not let gas spill out but, you still don't want it to end near the exhaust. The throttle body fittings can be plugged or connected with vacuum rated hose. There's a couple different schools of thought on this plug or balance pipe but, I find either works. You should have a filler over flow hose too. I'd leave that alone and again don't let it terminate too close to the exhaust.

Ok I will run the overflow directly down to the bottom and run the other line down the same but leave the check in line? Those canisters actually weigh a lot.

I just put plugs on my BMW throttle bodies. I could balance them fine with the plugs and rund good once the canister was removed.

Yes, leave the check valve in place.
