Thanks.

We are, do, and will enjoy this day.

We are grateful that we can as a result of the sacrifice of folks like my great(x4)grandfather, James Hagan (1754-1829), 2nd Regiment, Maryland Line, Continental Army.  Enlisting in 1776, he fought at Brandywine, Germantown, Camden, Guilford Courthouse, and was badly wounded at Eutaw Springs.

"The Sun never shined on a cause of greater worth. 'Tis not the affair of a City, a County, a Province, or a Kingdom; but of a Continent — of at least one-eighth part of the habitable Globe. 'Tis not the concern of a day, a year, or an age; posterity are virtually involved in the contest, and will be more or less affected even to the end of time, by the proceedings now. Now is the seed-time of Continental union, faith and honour."

Our forefathers were the good kind of separatist terrorist, despite what the Crown claimed!

Doing it right now!!  28 people coming over this evening, 10 pounds of pork loin cooking now, 10 chickens going on the grill shortly.   Lots of target shooting on 25, 50, and 150 yard ranges, and big fireworks later after dark.    Always look forward to this time .... !!

It just started 4 years ago with a couple of people, and the word got around the family and in-laws and connections, and now it's getting big!   Lots of fun though .....

Cooked a whole hog, couple dozen chickens, 25 racks of ribs, and about 40# of sausage at one of our great local breweries today, now time for a quick shower and I'm headed up the BRP to watch the fireworks from one of the town-facing overlooks  :thumb:

My brother goes to Tennessee each year and picks up ... oh, a LOT of fireworks, including ones I can't believe they'd sell to individuals.   We just finished eating, our family Marines and Airborne rifle experts are out shooting and sighting-in various weapons, and when it's dark, there will be a magnificent show.   Not really legal, but we have three lawyers in this bunch and I'm sure we'll find a way to wiggle out of any problems that might ensue.   But we're 3/4 of a mile from the nearest road, and 1/2 a mile from the next house, and the woods are wet and steamy, so I think we'll do well .... !

Too late to get to Asheville for M/BBQ's event, but we toyed with the idea of crashing Lannis's party.

Just not enough time, so we just made our place appropriately festive.

THAT would have been a hoot!   Don't hesitate next time, we had a ton of food left over even though everyone did a manful (or womanful) job of trying to eat it all .....
