Title: Small block engine guards.

Looking for engine guards for my 2014 V7.

Would like to know where "good looks" and "best built" meet. Something that doesn't look like it's been tacked on, but still does the job. Preferably in black.

I seem to remember that Pfaff (Anders) had a really nice looking set on his Breva, folded neatly around the motor but did not detract (in my mind at least) from the visual appearance of the donk.

There are only 3-4 options, HB, Stucchi, and maybe a third base, and then there are frame sliders from Sato/Over Racing.

Looks are subjective.

Some hug the cylinders more, some stick out more, the Sliders aren't cheap but they are least intrusive in my mind.

Can't say which is most effective, all look like quality.

I have the Agostini guards on my 2013 Stone. http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/prodView.asp?idProduct=60959 (http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/prodView.asp?idProduct=60959) I've low slided my bike and the guards took the hit well and I replaced them with another set. But how much damage can the cylinder head of the new V7's safely take? A new set of crash bars cost me $150 and I could have bought 3 new head covers for that much money.

Luigi Stucchi is a very high quality manufacturer of "after-market" Guzzi parts in Italy (they are right next to the factory in Mandello!). There is little reason these days not to order directly-- if something can't be had here in the USA.

I installed an OEM Moto Guzzi crash bar on my '13 Stone and it looked like the bike came with it from the factory.  The kit part number is GU973217200008 and I believe AF1 Racing still sells it.  It's rock solid and has protected the bike when I dropped it at 0 mph, with no damage to the bike or the crash bar.  I believe, with little evidence, that this bar was manufactured by Agostini.  I did recently install a very similar Agostini bar on my new '16 Stone.  Also purchased from AF1.  I'm totally satisfied.

  :1:  Agos are one piece and very sturdy.  BTW, if you go down without them, it will be more than just the valve cover taking the hit.

I've gone down with and without crashbars on the Stone (A combination of novice riding and commuting thru all weather) and I still got the same damage during both lowslides besides the cylinder heads, the bike fell on almost the same points, the cylinder head cover/crashbar, bar-end weight, exhaust muffler, foot peg, and the bottom of the forktube.
I'm wondering if the smallblock V-twin engine is sturdy enough to sustain stress from the same kind of impact that the crashbars can reasonably protect against, a slow slide. Because let's face it, if your bike gets in a impact crash or a high-side, crash bars or sliders aren't saving your scoot from getting binned.
