Title: A good day in the garage with the Jackal.
Post by: wavedog on July 17, 2015, 07:59:32 PM
Changed out the front tire on the Jackal today. Cleaned some rust off of the inside of the rim, corrosion proofed it, installed tire, tube and did the balancing act. While the wheel was off I removed the front fender and removed some very light rust, sprayed some primer on the inside of the fender, then applied some undercoat and re-installed the works. Then I adjusted the valves, painted the valve covers, changed the oil and tranny fluid. Also painted the fork legs.
Next up is work on the start problem. Sometimes I hit the starter and I get a click, then hit it again and it starts. After that some cleaning and shining.
By the way, I got 15,400 miles on the front tire before changing. The old tire easily had a thou left in it. Michelin Pilot Actives. Good tire.
A good day in the garage. I am beat. Time to hit the rack.

My experience would suggest that if you connections are good and battery is strong, that your starter will eventually fail.

Thanks for that, but I replaced the starter and the battery last year.

When will we see a bumper sticker "A bad day on the road beats a good day in the garage"?

I ran an additional earth lead from one of the starter retaining bolts back to the battery and it made a big difference to the starter responsiveness of my Stone.
