Amazing workmanship also.

Yeah, but a trike is not a bike..  if you can't lean it in the corners it's not a bike..  it's just an open air roadster.

Exactly, for the most part I think trikes are useless. But some of the old guys here like them. This one is has some serious engineering, not cobbled together like most of them.

Say what you want about trikes not being bikes, but I have a friend that has cancer and could no longer hold up his Harley so he buys a trike and him and his wife put on more miles than most KERA members. Another had knee surgery that didn't turn out right so the trike suits him and my friend Bob rides in from Reno on his trike with trailer holding his oxygen tank!

Maybe some day I'll be old and have to buy a trike. And if you don't like it, I'll hit
you with a can of Ensure!

We already looked at this contraption .

   Pedantic alert , this isn't a trike , it has four tires , I'll take Rodekyll"s home built .

   Dusty

If you watch the videos the front tires are mounted on a one piece rim, effectively one tire. Rodekyll`s trike is a cobble job compared to this.

Yes, but only 3 wheels! front wheel is solid billet aluminum, one piece, engineered for two tires. I got no trouble with trikes for those who are having difficult times with knees, backs, etc. I have a cobbled together homebuilt, and it feels just like a bike until you corner.

I guess for everyone who says "a trike is not a bike" there're several other ones who would say a motorcycle is not a "bike". :thewife:

Bike-trike? Simple mathematics. 2 into 3 "doesn't half go" or something...

Me, I save my debates for those oddballs attaching a training wheel, calling it a side car or "outfit" and proclaiming to all the world that they are indeed still motorcyclists.

If it can not fall over without my attention then it's simply not a motorcycle and you weirdos hauling around dogs, cats, mothers-in-law or vats of chicken cadavers not withstanding - any third wheel's a disqualifier... Well, with one exception:

When a fella gets to where he can't mount, prop up or successfully come to a stop on a two-wheeler - a third wheel in any configuration is still a "bike" if it keeps him in the wind.

As far as this engineering powerhouse in the OP is concerned, I'll opt for Gramma's POV and say this much; I'd love to have those heads!

Todd.

This goes in the same category as the Tron motorcycle.  Yep, someone did something different.  It makes people look.

"Good" engineering?  Maybe, maybe not.

Like above, I'd take RK's trike over that one.

Trikes have their place and can be very cool, but they still ain't bikes..

I think that guy really gets around on that trike, not a poser at all. He's a rich guy who knew what he wanted. I don't see any reason why he couldn't put distance on it.

He actually says about 60 miles is all he can stand. Obviously it`s a fun machine much like an old Tonti framed Guzzi turned into a Cafe racer.

Methinks I'd need to have a sissy bar on that contraption

Either that or strap my hands to the bars :azn:

You know, all this "my way is right, and if you don't agree, you're stupid" crap is childish. It's getting as deep as Facebook in here. I have a sidecar. I've wanted one since I was a kid, and when a deal of a century came up, I took it. And, as an added bonus for me, it happened to be a Guzzi which introduced me to this brand. Had I had horse puckey like this crap in my ear, I may not have bought it and may have had a Honda or Harley at this point. So, you don't prefer anything with more than two wheels, good for you. Don't buy one. I, however, love my bike. It is my first motorcycle and won't be my last. It is a gorgeous, three wheeled Italian beauty. My next one will likely have two wheels, but not because I want to be a "real" motorcyclist like you, but because then I'll have both worlds.

If the vehicle is different, someone will say it is not real or should of been something different. I
think some are just saying this to themselves so that they can stay in their personal pidgin hole, as it feels safer than giving something a chance to enjoy the difference.

I have found that my mind and soul has been stirred by every different vehicle I have driven. I purfere not to be choked into place that does not allow enjoyment of experiencing something different.

I think the point is that a hack is a hack, not a motorcycle.  Or, it is a motorcycle WITH a sidecar.  It is not a motorcycle anymore.  And a trike is not a motorcycle.

Now, for legal purposes you can also argue the other way.  Most of the time the govt chooses to treat hacks and trikes as motorcycles when it comes to registration and taxes.  BUT...the trike mfgs are trying to change that so we will come back to the beginning, a trike is not a motorcycle.

Yes, there are some who will denounce trikes and hacks as useless POS.  I don't care.  And I will feel free to laugh at them when they can no longer ride on two wheels.

Meanwhile, in a year or two I will be adding a hack to my garage, just cause I think one would be fun.

Bike = bicycle
Motorcycle ≠ bike
Bike ≠ trike
Hack ≠ trike
Hack ≠ motorcycle... well, OK, it perhaps equals Motorcycle x 1.5 anyhow.

And damn it! It's aluminum not aluminium!
                    It's a magazine in your .45 not a clip!
That is not a "gas pedal" at the floor board of you Kenworth!
                    Irregardless is literary pollution!
                    That is not my dog!
And you kids stay offa my lawn! Ain't gonna tell you 'gain and some day it ain't gonna be rock salt either!

Really though, some day I do see myself attaching a hack to one of my Geese to haul about my English wife and/or American Bulldogs... How do you fellas transition from two to three wheels and back without getting curfuffled in relation to muscle-memory reactions?

Todd.

I'd be curious to read the gov't definition of such things, not that it'd impact what resides in my garage.

This contraption participated in a fundraiser ride I did recently....

Chevy 4 cyl.
steering WHEEL
6 speed tranny shift on the floor
seat belts

Way more in common with Miata than a bike,

yet, it's registered and insured as a Motorcycle.

Hell, the Morgan is a three wheeler with a V - twin, and they call that a car.

And for the record, I'd take a Morgan in a heartbeat.

We can play games with spoken language, but I will agree that most people think of a motorcycle as being able to lean in corners, even if they have attachments with more wheels. Some pull trailers, with one or more tires, and some have an attachment on the side, called a sidecar, but still allows the cycle to lean normally in corners.

With a rigid sidecar one can still lean in high speed corners, but on right handers the cycle will be leaning the opposite direction of a normal cycle. Just follow me and you will see that it still leans.

Regardless of what someone want to call it, it is cool. Certainly a head turner.
