Title: Fork tube protrusion
Post by: BMWDavid on July 21, 2015, 04:48:49 PM
On my recently purchased '03 V11 LeMans I noticed that the fork tubes protrude about 8mm through the triple clamp/clip on. Is this correct or should they be flush?

Thanks,

David

Sounds like the PO raised the forks , a common mod . Does it handle like you want it to ?

should quicken the handling.  I've not seen a thread or report on doing on here on the Lemans board.

might wonder if the PO put on a shorter shock too, was he small?

He was a bit short. But he was very forthcoming about the history of the bike. I think he would have said something about the forks and or the shock had he been the one to make changes. This bike was a demo at the dealer according to PO. It sat on the dealer floor for two years. He bought it in December 2005 with 40 miles on it.

Perhaps the dealer set it up that way at some point. What would I look for to determine if the rear shock is shorter than stock?

The stock V11 Sport has clip ons which attach to the fork tube above the triple clamp.  I've moved my tubes up so that there's about 13mm of tube above the triple clamp.  Handling is fine.

they are diffrent with the Lemans, I would slip them back up even and ride it like the factory intended unless your a track guy.

Mine look identical to fotoguzzi's with the MPH risers.  Flush basically.  Handles great ('03 Lemans).  The Sports are different and it helps to drop the front.  I honestly can't say with mine as I've never tried it lowered.
