Title: V7 Record Kits
Post by: leafman60 on July 22, 2015, 09:08:30 PM
Were those things ever really available? Are they now?  I never hear or see anything about them anymore.

Looks like they got smart and sell the fairing seperately.  That's the best part anyway.

$1,300

Is that only for the fairing?

What other parts came with the original Record Kit?

I think the original kit included the ducktail seat too.

Has anyone here installed and used one of these kits?

I believe that the original kit was around $2,200.    I don't really care for the ducktail seat anyway, so, being able to get just the fairing is a good thing.

Now, I just need to raise the money to buy this for my V7R!

Looks like you cannot get the seat now.

MG Cycle sells the Stucchi fairing for about $1250. Haven't seen one in person, but I'd argue it's the same as the OEM Record fairing -- just about.

I have the Stucchi fairing and the Record is nicer in my opinion because it wraps up to the handlebars in an aesthetically pleasing way.  Looking at the Stucchi side-on, it looks weird.

There's too much space between the triple-tree and fairing.    If the sides wrapped around a little more, it'd be perfect.  Otherwise, the Stucchi and Record perform the same.

I think the ducktail seat is the coolest part! too bad it has that stupid number plate on it!

The number plate is what I don't like about it.   W/o the number plate, the ducktail seat would be cool.

Is the record kit fairing painted silver, or is that just primer?

I've seen one kit on a Racer at a dealer a couple years ago.  If I recall correctly, it's a brushed silver that matches the side covers.  You can call AF1 to confirm.

I emailed AF1, here is the response:

It's a grey primer....most people leave it like it is....you can paint if you want

Store will calculate shipping and give you options

I contacted my local dealer, Europa Macchina to see if they could get it, and, they can, but, said that stock on them is real low, and that if I wanted one, I should not wait.    So, I pulled the trigger, and since I gave the business to my local dealer, I will be picking it up, and saving shipping.

Since the fairing will need to be painted, now, I'm thinking about one of those black $309.95 fuel tanks and a custom paint job.

Awesome! Great idea on the tank as well. If I had any disposable income at all I'd do the same. As it stands I'm going to be raiding my coin jar for a new rear tire!

I have, and am selling other motorcycle stuff to fund this little project.  I just sold $600 in R100S parts, as well as a Corbin seat I had purchased for my R75/5 that I ended up not using.   I've got bunch of other stuff, including a 1994 R100R Mystic up for sale too.

I got mine 2 years ago through AF1.  Arrived damaged but AF1 made it right and I had it repaired/painted.
Didn't think much of the ducktail seat and left it boxed up for a year.
Then when I added the decals and stripes I continued them on the seat and kind of like it.
Still not happy with the number plates and will change those at some point.
I've seen them with just the eagle logo on black background with 1/4" red/white/green on the outside of the oval... very nice.
Anyway, here's mine.

The Record fairing and black tank are now on order.

They'll go on the shelf for now, while I raise more money for paint.

I'm currently thinking Verde Legano.

When you mentioned painting the kit and a new tank, my mind immediately went to Verde Legnano.  Cannot wait to see pics when it's finished!

That was fast!   I picked it up on Friday.    It is a quality piece.   I can't wait to get it on the bike!

So, it turns out that the AF1 guy was wrong.   It isn't just primed it is a satin silver to match the side covers, as Cam had suggested.

So, now, I'm thinking about just mounting it as is w/ the chrome tank instead of painting, which I was going to have to wait to do because of money (Guzzi content on Guzzi content).

They are definitely available. I've got a kitted racer in the shop now.

The one on the bench has what I assume to be a 'Duck Tail' seat? You want I post a pic? This is a PITA due to Flickr not being iPad friendly but I can do it if you like?

Thank you, Pete.  That's not necessary.

The ducktail seat came with the original Record Kit and is shown above in the post of V7Record.

Sweet. Please let us know how the install goes if DIY. I doubt I can swing it this year, maybe if they have any left next year...

I am going to DIY it.   I'll definitely post pics and any comments on installation.
The instructions are pretty specific.   It looks pretty straightforward.
