Title: Free tires for life!
Post by: bad Chad on July 24, 2015, 05:22:56 PM
Leafing through my local Autofocus trading times type rag.   A local HD dealer is advertising free tires for life with the purchase of any new 2014.    In small print "certain restrictions apply see dealer for detail"

Devil is in the details I'm guessing.

The tires may be free but how much are they going to charge for removing/re-installing the wheel and tire and how much to remove & install the new tire on the wheel?  Then, they'll soak you for balancing.  Chances are that you'll pay as much or more for these free tires by the time everything is done.
Color me cynical.   :undecided:

I'd guess so.  I wouldn't be surprised if there was a requirement to have the dealer do the mounting and balancing at their cost.

Sure, I can imagine free for the duration of that single new bike buyer riding and registering that particular bike.

How often does the average rider keep his HD these days and how many miles actually get put on them? How often do the average HD owners re-locate?

Rider rides little.
Restrictions relative to high mileage riders if they apply.
Rider moves and the deal does not transfer.
Rider sells and the deal does not transfer.

So many ways to protect the dealer.

Brings to mind a pal of mine on my Team in the Army. He had and drove the bejeepers outa his SR5 Toyota pickup. Eventually his "lifetime" warranties were unilaterally bought back out by the various parts chains he had hammered for nearly a half million miles worth of; clutches, brakes, u-joints... what have you.

I guess they generally didn't expect to be taken literally where the word "Lifetime" was concerned.

Todd.

That promo is one I've seen various HD dealers (and less often, some others) offer; all I can say is that I'm glad my doctor hasn't offered me a similar guarantee on his work!

I had that offer on my VW.

Just had to do all services at the dealer.

Worked out pretty good.  First 3 services (30,000 mi) were included in purchase.  So I paid for 40K service, and got new tires (paying for mount and balance at inflated charges).  Tires were MSRP about $200.00 each.

Now I am under my own hood.

My brothers harley is twenty years old and is only on his first set of replacement tires. I wonder how many of those H.D.'s get sold or traded with the oem's still on them. My guess is its a lot. Safer to give out free tires than chrome polish.

I understand that Harley no longer supports Evo bikes.  Good look with the tires.
