While I'm at the desktop and can post pics.
They have gone back to the sump bottom oil pick-up for the lubrication pump on the 2015 models. Gotta be good news. I'm wondering if pick-up exposure might still be an issue when you wheelie an 8V. While I've got my sump and spacer off I might make up a stoppage sheet while i'm waiting for my big end shells.

And the smaller oil filter too, Pete?

Yup, same size as was used for donkey's years with the older motor and rarely loaded up. If people are so worried I suggest a trailer with a purification unit on it and a factory supplied tow hitch.
Is anything ever good enough?
f***?

Different thread than the one, "used for donkey's years with the older motor"

Pete, did you find anything of interest in your lower end. And are you going to back flush the cooling system. Just curios as I have ordered a roller kit and the quest for knowledge has begun. thanks dave

So this is what put your panties in a bunch? Wow.

Nah, it's a legitimate point I suppose but really the size of the filtering medium is a bit of a non issue. If you change the filter every 10,000 kms like you're supposed to it'll never load up unless there is major destruction going on. By then filter size would be the least of your problems.
Lucian. The bearing damage is evidentiary of oil starvation rather than particulate damage, (Pics on the Ghetto.) When I pulled the sump spacer I found a small piece of gasket around the oil pick-up gallery for the lubrication oil pump was missing. Now I don't think I've ever had my sump spacer off before so my guess is that it was damaged on assembly eight years ago at the factory. I assume that for the last eight years oil pick-up has been somewhat compromised which may of contributed to some of the awful racket my bike has always made. Why it should choose to begin to fail catastrophically just after rollerization I don't know but mine is the second bike with a similar issue I've had in two months. Mark S's bike also did its big ends just after it was rollerised but it seemed to have had a very hard life and suffered considerable neglect while in the care of its original owner.
To answer the question though, yes, I had back-flushed the cooler and checked oil pressure after the rollerization. Didn't get the engine really hot though which probably would of shown a substantial pressure drop due to the bad gasket.
Do you know which kit your bike requires? If not I can give you the details of how to identify what engine you have.

Thanks Pete, I ordered a C kit as my a5 has the non floating covers with the steel plug tube and o rings top and bottom. It also lacked the drilling mark on the head so I hope I have ordered the right kit. I am hoping I can use my rocker covers but I am not sure. As I understand it, I will need some extra bits like intake and exhaust gaskets. I hopefully have time to get it all together as the bike still runs strong and will probably switch it over this winter unless it shits itself first. I will check out the ghetto for your post , best of luck with your bike and thank you . dave

Nah, 'C' kit contains everything you need. You done good. You use the original rocker covers and plug tube. The cambox is machined to take them. Are you doing the swap yourself? If so I can give you a few hints as to what to look out for and be careful of.

Thanks again Pete, I am planning on doing the work myself . At this point I feel as if I am willing and able but the shop manual leaves a lot to be desired. Is there any factory info available on the conversion? One thing about Maine winters is you can stretch a two day job out for five months. Certainly appreciate all you do to help. dave
