I plan on being there Friday on my Breva 750.  The motel is booked so as usual there will be a good turnout.  :boozing:  I'm tenting as usual.

Since the motel is full, a group of us are staying at The Largo Motel in Quemado.

Glad I won't be alone :)  I'll be camping again.

If I were to pick a motel to stay in the Largo would be it.

There is another (or two) in Magdalena but have not seen them lately.

There is a group of us from Phoenix leaving early Friday morning.

We are staying at the luxurious    Largo Motel in Quemado this year!

I heard there is A LOT of road construction / delays on 260 from Payson to Show Low AND on SR 60, near Devil's Canyon, so we have to choose our route carefully on the way up.

Hi Rocker -

Not so hot, really, and Datil is near the Continental Divide @ >7,000 feet.

Phoenix will be 111-112 degrees the next few days - Now THAT is HOT!!!

Hi Bruce -

You were smart (and lucky....) to score a room at the the "chi-chi" Eagle Guest Ranch in historic Datil, as I believe they only have a total of eight (8) rooms!!

Jim "Jimbo" McDermott (aka "The Grand Pooh-Bah" of the Valley Guzzisti), and Bruce-the Le Mans are also staying there, I believe.

Ron, Christoph and Steve-O are camping.

Me, Andy, Mike and I believe a few others are staying at the luxurious Largo Motel, near Pie Town.

Yes, Datil is a bit cooler.  You just have to ride across all that desert to get there :)

We've been having a little bit of a dry spell, so it may not rain.  Good and bad.  Good cause there will be less chance of close lightning.  Bad cause temps will be higher.

Hey, JJ, when I can't get a motel room I tent and this is my alibi.  Got a new tent and need to try it out.

Hey Wayne -

I have ridden motorcycles on the street for >45 years.  I have done my fair share of two-wheel camping for many years.  My wife and still still go camping, but by SUV.

Today's choices for modern motorcycle camping gear is light and practical an efficient.

I guess the important point is that we are both RIDING to Datil, and that has merit in and of itself.

I look forward to seeing you again! Take care an as always...RIDE SAFE

Right now it looks like possible t-storms in the pm all days, highs in the mid 80s, lows in the mid 50s.  Good thing I'm bringing rain gear.

Yes, it rains ALL THE TIME up in the mountains in the PM.  Like the Boy Scout Motto says:  "Be Prepared!"

Last year, when we rode past Sunrise Ski Resort, it POURED and it was the wettest I have been in a motorcycle in years!

And do not count on the weather forecast.  Yesterday was supposed to be fairly dry here.  Then a bunch of scattered thunderstorms started a little convention.  One huge one.  Rained most of the afternoon and evening.

Last week we had a lightning strike on the property.  About 100ft from the house.  Shattered a dead tree.  Luckily this year there has been plenty of rain so fire danger is low.

3 more days!  That reminds me, gotta get out the camping gear.

Here on the "Forbidden Planet", (aka Phoenix in the summer), it is forecast to be 112-115 frick'in degrees by this Friday!!!

That's nice....I am more than happy to ride through a little COOL rain!

Unanticipated change of plans.  My daughter and I were planning on attending and just found out my son's SO is planning on inducing the baby on Sunday.  Grandpa has got to be home for that!  My daughter and I will be doing a short ride (Wed thru Fri) down through Northern NM, Taos, Sante Fe, Madrid, et al.  Enjoy the rally!

Family first always!  We will take photos for you and file a report afterwards!

Again, the Phoenix contingency leaving early (6 AM) Friday morning from the Circle K off the Stapely exit / US 60.

Breakfast in Superior or Globe, then jamming through the twisties of the Salt River Canyon this year to Show Low.

Then, EAST to Springerville, and across the ol' Continental Divide and onto the planet Datil!

I really wanted to attend as I made the first Datil rally with longtime friends, Dan and Cynthia. We've had 100 degree temps for 10 days, too hot to change the oil or do any work in the shop.

Wanted to see old friend Arizona Wayne, Matt and many others. Last time I was there the area had plenty of rain and the flowers and grass was higher than the cows belly.

Have fun and enjoy the cool weather.
Tex

I've been to a lot of Datil rallies, but to me this 1 was the best so far.   Accuweather predicted thunderstorms probable every day.......instead we just had a short sprinkle in Saturday pm.   Mid-80s and sunny the rest of the time.   Camping, 2 lunches, 2 dinners catered, rally T shirt, water, tea, beer, soda all day.......for $40 !!   How do they do it??  And Wes Stephens from Missouri wins a white Guzzi Convert. to boot!!   :thumb: 75 bikers show up.   Motel, restaurant, bar, store, gas station right there too.   :boozing:

And, yeah, can't believe Matt can provide all that stuff for $40.

Really sorry we missed it.  My daughter and I had a great mini tour of Northern New Mexico and her CBR250 kept up just fine.  Witnessing  the birth of our newest granddaughter yesterday made up for missing the rally, however.

Anyone have pics to post of the activities?
