Title: A Brief Medical Update
Post by: Crusty on July 29, 2015, 05:11:00 PM
A Brief Medical Update

Yesterday, I had appointments with two specialists that could have serious effects on my life. My first appointment was with my Cardiologist. Everything looks and sounds O.K. with my heart. Dr. Robotis is very happy that I've lost 26 pounds since Christmas. He wants me to lose another 20 pounds and get down to 200. I told him that my goal is to get down to 180, and that made him smile broadly. When I told him that I'd retired in December, he was impressed that I was doing so well. He said that many people let their health go to hell when they retire, but I was looking happier and I was healthier than I was before. I guess that being a Tramp is my true vocation.

My Urologist was happy with the Cystoscopy. I was watching the monitor as he moved the scope all around my bladder, and he pointed out how everything looked healthy and normal. he was going to schedule my next cystoscopy for six months from now, but I told him that I want to be in Australia through the winter (Northern hemisphere) months. So he scheduled it for mid November. That way, I'll be able to head out in November, and return in the Spring. He's also happy about my traveling and wants me to send him a postcard from Australia when I go.

In other words, I'm healthy and happy and my Doctors are pleased.

Great news along with a lot of motivation to keep in shape. I worked in education and retired at the end of May. I would have gone back to work this week so now I am feeling retired. I have more time for exercise now and have also picked up aquacise three days a week besides the exercise routine I was doing. So far retirement is just wonderful!  :boozing:

Good news, Crusty.  My weight, blood pressure and cholesterol all came down when I retired through no conscious effort on my part.  Do you think stress has an effect on our well being??  :boozing:

Congratulations!  I just retired and my BP is also down to just above normal levels.  I'm lucky enough to live a mile from the beach so I walk down there and let my feets tempt the sharks for a bit.  Just did a 2 hour hike this morning and I think I'll walk to the beach now while listening to an audio book.  Keep it up!

I can agree with you.  I have lost48 pounds since Feb.  My blood pressure was in the 150s over high 80s while taking two different hypertension control drugs.  I have stopped one of those medicines and take about one fourth of the other.  Blood pressure is now below the 120 over 68.  sometimes as low as 106 over 60.  Feeling much better because of this.  When you have retired and have no real schedule you have the liberty to exercise when you feel like it and rest if you want to, sleep in or rise before the chickens, your choice.
Just don't get bored or you might eat yourself into the pilsbury dough boy shape.

Crusty,

Sometimes I'm a little slow, but at least I saw the post eventually.  Glad to read that things are looking up.  Hope you have a great time in Australia

I heartily (NPI) agree on that.

Yet I cannot help but wonder about your avatar's impact on the message.

Cheers to you Crusty! :thumb:
I'm due for a check up. I had open heart surgery 2 years ago, felt great before and didn't think I needed it. I went to Pilates class and spinning class 5 days a week (mostly young beautiful girls there). But I was born with a bi-cusp valve instead of the normal tri-cusp, so they said I needed a new one. They gave me a bovine (bull) valve. I feel great again - as before the surgery. I had it at the Ronald Reagan at UCLA, excellent if you need that type of work done.
