Title: clutch cable issues or cutch problem?
Post by: trix400 on August 02, 2015, 07:42:52 AM
I've been having issues with my clutch not disengaging. Have been playing with the cable adjustment but that only helped for a short while. Finally changed the cable yesterday still bad. Is there something else I can adjust or is it more serious?

Are you using up all of your cable adjustment at the lever?  If so, there is an adjustment on the arm on the back of the trans. If so loosen the 13mm locknut on arm and turn in adjuster 1/2-3/4 of a turn, retighten locknut.
This is done after you give the lever adjuster all of it's slack.

Try lubing the new cable.  Also, check the routing between the cylinders and make sure the cable isn't touching anything hot.  This is a known issue on your bike model.  FWIW, my '13 V7 Stone had a defective clutch cable from the factory.  It broke at the handlebar end, at the crimp fitting, after about 2000 mi.  Before it separated completely, as individual wires came apart, the adjustment went off several times.   The cable finally snapped in my driveway as I came back from a longish day-trip.  Fortunately, I had purchased a spare a few weeks earlier, so I was up and running in a half hour or so.  The original cable was replaced on warranty, but, to satisfy MG-USA, the dealer and I had to "pretend" that the dealer did the repair.

The cable end pivot at the handle should be lubed, as should the pivot at the transmission.  They need to rotate slightly and any resistance will put undue strain on the cable, causing premature failure.  The clutch cable should last a long time.
