Title: LM3 Triple Tree Torque Specs.
Post by: Vince in Milwaukee on August 06, 2015, 07:44:32 AM
Looking to confirm the torque specs. on my LeMans 3.  Found a chart for the old school V7 Sport, T, and T3 showing 32ft/lbs top and bottom.  Going to guess that mine is about the same.  Remember seeing something on this site stating that while these are critical fasteners, you don't want to over do it as the bolt holes are very easy to strip out.

You'd probably be surprised at how little torque it takes to hold something like that. I just snug em up by hand, but not everyone's hand is calibrated the same. 36 ft. lbs. is quite a bit...

I was told that it's 32lbs according to Guzzi restoration for all heavyweight twins. I used antiseize on mine (81 G5), so I ended up doing 25% less torque so around 24-26lbs-ish. I'm always stressing when it comes to tightening bolts and such; I've stripped way-way to many in my lifetime..

Thanks Chuck and Groover for the fast replies.  I went with 30 ft/lbs. on each because I stripped out one on my BMW and now am a bit gun shy.

Stripping isn`t the only concern you can break the clamp opposite the bolt side also.
