So- I should finish pulling together the V50 for sale and would like to replace it with another smaller framed machine to complement the 1200S. I'd want something for tooling around locally- so light and handy would be nice. What do you think? V7, street triple, Shiver, Vespa all would be possible options.

not for freeway use but goes up to 60mph!

Why not go sit on them all and see what you think? I have had a V7, and currently ride a '13 Shiver. The V7 has more relaxed ergos compared to the Shiver. The Shiver makes much more power, if that is important to you. I think the V7 would be better suited to urban rides. It's lighter and very comfy, plus has great character and is super fun to ride.

V7s make me smile every time I ride one.
There's a lot to be said for that.

Try an '08 or '09 Shiver. Their ergos are more relaxed than the newer versions. I test rode a new Shiver a couple of years ago and didn't like it nearly as much as the '08 Shiver I ended up with.

The current V7 is noticeably larger and heavier than a V50, if size and weight matter.

My wife has a '77 Yamaha XS650.
Plenty of support and parts......Fun bike.
About 200 miles a day is about all she wants to ride it though ,so, we take only it on short camping trips.
She got a little windscreen (slipstreamer) that you can take on/off in about 2 minutes...she loves it.....Alan.

Wow! That leaves it wide open. The S-Tripple and the Shiver are quick hooligan bikes like the Ducati Monster. The V7 can be ridden quickly, but, doesn't beg to like the Shiver and Stripple. The Vespa itself, is at the top if it's class, but, definitely more of an urban grocery getting / lazy country ride bike.
You first need to ask yourself what its mission is going to be.
In the mean time, go ride 'em all, and see what calls to you.

Thousand Oaks has a new, left over '14 Shiver for the princely sum of only $5,799.

Do yourself a favor and go test ride a Street Triple. Truly amazing machine. Can be ridden smooth and refined.
Can be ridden like a cheetah chasing a gazelle on a hot African day.
Handling is razor sharp. Very safe bike if in experienced and mature hands.

The Street Triple is indeed a great bike. I also like the Ducati Monster. I have a '13 796, and I really like it for "tooling around locally," as you say.
Plus, I get a lot more thumbs-up on the Monster than I ever get on the California. :laugh: :embarrassed:
